    From the Stornoway Gazette:-

"Stornoway has become the latest centre in the push to promote cycling across the country.

The town joins Clydebank, Glasgow and Inverness, amongst others, with the installation of a Danish style digital cycle counter in Stornoway, the first of its kind in the Islands...

The high-visibility digital display in Stornoway will allow local residents and visitors to see the total number of cyclists that have passed the counter on that day and over the course of the past year.

The counter is one of a total of 12 across Scotland, which relay local cycle information to a master digital totem-pole displaying the counts outside the Scottish Government’s Victoria Quay office in Edinburgh."

    Has anyone seen this totem-pole?

Real "totem" poles are v. cool. Different types with different purposes / meanings - including the shame/ridicule pole, a concept I think has some potential for adoption elsewhere.

"On March 24, 2007, a shame pole was erected in Cordova, Alaska, that includes the inverted and distorted face of former Exxon CEO Lee Raymond. The pole represents the unpaid debt of $5 million in punitive damages that a federal court in Anchorage, Alaska, determined Exxon owes for its role in causing the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound"

Wasn't urbane professor (occasionally of this parish - possibly under a different username) involved in the Wester Hailes totem pole?

I cannot support your implied proposal to erect shame poles in this country as deforestation would inevitably result.

I attended its grand unveiling, back in 2014, although at that time the individual cycle counters had been operational for a while. The MMW counter had already recorded over 300,000 cyclists*.
