Hmm. It's not entirely clear to me what this means for bikes. Anything? Nothing much? I did have a loose plan for a jaunt on Saturday that'd involve this area.

@Trixie - assuming this will be similar to rugby games, you'll be fine in the afternoon, but not at night. Crowd will probably be more spread out pre-concert than for a rugby match.

Before kickoff the concert, expect these roads to be busy with pedestrians, but passable by bike (might need to walk round a barrier, but almost certainly not). @Rosie might be able to offer advice on slaloming around pedestrians.

When the concert ends, the red roads on the map will be impassable by bike. The blue ones won't be as bad, but will still be busy.

Is there a better version of the map anywhere? The one the article is too small.

Cheers, @Frenchy. I may admit defeat on this one and get the bus. Which allows for a wider range of afternoon refreshments, I suppose.

Edit: If those hire bikes were here (and stationed in reasonable places) I'd cycle out and bus back.

He was just up at the Balerno Farmers' Market when I was there a minute ago

Bought some tomatoes, some bread from the andante bakery and some cocaine from the guy round the back of The Grey Horse pub.

    "
In a circle of less than a mile in diameter centred on the British Telecomms rugby stadium at Murrayfield lie the quiet residential areas of Saughtonhall, Glendevon, Riversdale and Roseburn, with narrow streets and high car ownership where on-street parking outside residences is the norm.

These areas have remained virtually unblemished since built in the 1920s."

    Hmm.

@chdot but I did buy some andante bread (called The Covenanter) and some extremely tasty toms at the market. Granted the guy that sells the Coke behind the grey horse was nowhere to be seen.

@Frenchy - Saw one slow moving soul wheeling through the crowds.

Bloke on tram (Yorkshire) saying this was the 36th time he's seen the Rolling Stones.

@Stickman Given that the public transport links here are excellent, why the need for those on-street parked cars (blemishing in themselves)?

Event day parking gives us moderate joy. (We are lucky in that we have a drive to use if we need it). The spectacle of watching the madness of coaches try to use our back street as a rat run (Pro tip: you'll get stuck going round the corner) or cabs taking their fares down the rat run and getting snarled up because the road becomes a single track with (no) passing spaces. Or people heading confidently up the dead end before realising that yes, that is a brick wall not a road. Small pleasures...
Taking my evil hat off, I like to see the flow of happy people going to a match or a concert - never have any trouble, and local children raise money for charity by selling sweets or baking at their front gates.

You should employ a coyote to paint the continuation of the road, in beautiful perspective, on the wall.

@Arellcat - not sure that is a good idea. What would inevitably happen is that a big truck would then drive out of the painting.
