Playing with routes on Google maps for Android and a new weirdness has emerged - any route ending in or within Hungary for bikes returns as "could not calculate a route". Very odd. Usually that is the response if you try to route a bike from a road end in Siberia to Toronto or something. Anyone cast any light?

There's a Hungarian contractor in my team at the moment - I could ask him on Monday?

    Maybe Orban has banned cycling?

@wingpig please do! Walking routes work, just not cycling. Maybe there's some sort of failure to agree what constitutes a bikeable road?

@iwrats only if you are or are helping an immigrant. Maybe bicyclists are suspected of harbouring sympathies.

i nearly got divorced in hungary, because of a nifty area where two parallel roads, about 1.5km apart, have the same number.

lovely country, but some real surprises.

I was partial to the trilogy Colonel Redl, Mephisto and Hannussen made by Istvan Szabo starring Klaus Maria Brandauer. Very good use of thin trees. See also Miller's Crossing by Coen bros. also good use of trees

bax, i've done extensive hungarian pastry testing, and respectfully disagree. although, they aren't a patch on the Slovak 'coffee bean' confectionary.
