Anyone have any recommendations for men's cycling trousers? I was thinking of getting some as a Christmas present. I know he wants baggy ones, but was also thinking of some with zip-off legs, and chamois padding (since he's not got any to wear under). But would appreciate advice/suggestions.

Had seem some that fit the particulars above in the EBC sale this summer but didn't act fast enough before the right size sold out. Given delivery issues, I'd probably better for something available in local stores.

I usually get on fine with Craghopper Kiwi trousering (regular or zip off). No chamois but fairly practical.

Zip off tend to fade unevenly as you spend more time wearing the top half.

  3. Funnily enough just before the arctic winter hit I was pondering some cycling troos, then read on various places about walking trousers being perfectly adequate for the job. I'm commuting in some Rohan walking troos (with a lovely warm fleecy lining) at the moment and they're great.

Have heard really good stuff about the Craghopper clothing as well in this regard.

I used to use Craghoppers for hillwalking and I'll third the Kiwi's (regular or zipoff) as being good all round trews. Very practical and hard wearing.

Only traded them in as I wanted some sexy Montane ones in a more technical fabric. I wouldn't recommend the Montanes for cycling. Reinforced with non-stretchy, hard wearing stuff in all the wrong places.

I've got a couple of pairs of fleecy lined Craghoppers but usually I generate enough heat from cycling. I could have used them last week when the corrugated surface slowed me down so I wasn't using enough energy to stay warm.

I've got fleecy ones in school just now.

I generally wear bog standard trackies and thrown the camping/hillwalking waterproof troos over the top if particularly nasty outside since the waterproof cycling troos seem to do little
