The move is being described as “guerrilla marketing at its finest”

Not half as good marketing as getting the press to write about it afterwards.

Surprised when I clicked that it wasn't La Favorita, who presumably sympathise with people penalised for motor-car-based rule-flouting.

I seem to remember reading that La Favorita were planning on closing down their Morningside branch - hopefully this company won't be using delivery vehicles especially given that they seem to be encouraging illegal customer parking.

La Favorita are indeed closing in Morningside (and Blackhall). In fact, I think today might be their last day.

NKD Pizza seem to have increased their fleet of delivery vehicles; indeed I watched the other days as three of them parked up in the bus stop outside the shop over the space of about 10 minutes.

On the other hand one of their drivers physically stopped their car to wave myself and two small boys across Morningside Drive a few days back (these gestures, whilst always gratefully received and acknowledged are actually slightly un-nerving and puts the pressure on when shepherding erratic scooter riders).

Have you seen the prices of from-whom-not-to-order? I'm sure artisanal rare grain pizzas, handmade in an oven constructed from the finest handmade bricks thrown by sartorial gentlemen* with handlebar moustaches and cravats, are fantastic and wonderful but some of us are minded to buy elsewhere.

    * I'm sure there are artisan women brickmakers who are equally well dressed.

NKD Pizza have a small fleet of delivery cars, often parked around their shop at the foot of Morningside Drive. Not really any issues with their parking/driving, unlike the nearby La Favorita - glad to see that closing down (although I hope no-one loses their job).

Given the increasing number of fliers/offers from NKD we get through the door I had assumed they were going down the pan.

NKD started work on a new premises in Corstorphine ages ago but there hasn't been any work on it for months so I assumed it had scrapped plans to open there.

  10. If you like pizza (The ECT family love it) then I can't recommend Pizza Posto highly enough. Opposite the festival theatre.

The four of us reckon its the best we've tasted outside Italy.

    Its also ridiculously cheap.

Not sure if they deliver. I've never seen a liveried vehicle.

@Edinburgh Cycle Training thanks for the tip. I'll try it.

If you don't fancy pizza but a curry instead then Kebab Mehal is just round the corner from Pizza Posto. Keen prices, no frills but one of the best places to eat curry in the city.

IMHO the best pizza in Edinburgh is Cafe Artista in Marchmont.

Bruno is from Naples, his pizzas are great (son also reckons his Bolognese is great), and it's BYOB.

I compare all pizza to Bruno's and most don't match up.

If you fancy a cycle and a pizza, the Bothy in East Saltoun has a earth oven in their patio which they use to produce pizzas (Fridays 4pm to 7pm only unless you get lucky like we did).

  15. +1 for Kebab Mahal.

I staggered in there by chance a month or so back. Thoroughly enjoyed my curry, although perhaps not sober enough to do an accurate review.

coincidentally, I staggered in there again exactly a week later. Whilst pondering the menu, the chap piped up with a recommendation as it was similar, but different enough to the one I'd enjoyed the previous week!

I like to think it was for a good reason he'd been able to remember someone who'd only visited his shop once previously, not because I was the only drunken customer he'd ever had.

La Favorita Morningside is currently undergoing transformation to Slumdog Delivered. I'm guessing it's part of/linked to La Favorita in some way.
Certainly the La Favorita signage is still all over the shop along with the Slumdog Coming Soon on the window.

So, bye bye little yellow cars. Hello little orange cars.

I don't know if you can order from them, but 1926 in Dalry is phenomenal!

1926 is owned by the upmarket Italian fish restaurant across the road. Locanda de Gusti

I love 1926 as it has red and white tablecloths, offers one Red and one white in carafes will not let you book at peak times etc. Alas Mrs Garto favours the thinner based pizza. 1926 is Neopolitan style

@gembo - I agree with your wife re thin crusts

Locanda de Gusti is a favourite of mine, especially at lunchtime.

Great VFM, cracking menu and wine - never had a bad meal there.

If you ask them nicely, they will get some of the tripe in tomato sauce out of the freezer (its not on the menu, but a special from the home country).

    Its a cracking dish
