Wasn't sure which general thread might be appropriate for this post, so a new one...

Just heard this "news" story on 6Music, where it's being treated as a shaggy dog story and rather incredulous tone of voice as in "She must be crazy!"

Okay even ardent cycling enthusiasts might think twice about this particular utility journey (even on an electric bike), but it seems to me the fact it's on radio news in the UK tells us a lot about attitudes to cycling in this country.

"Genter has worked as a transportation planner since coming to New Zealand in 2006."

She lives in Auckland, which had fairly ropy cycling infra when I was there a few years ago, but has upped its game since.

New Zealand was/is a very car-centred society for a variety of reasons and Auckland is a sprawling mess.

Yes - when we were there in the early 2000s, it was the 3rd largest city in the world by area- all for a population of not much more than 1 million.

PS. Fair play to them, but my only question was, how are they planning on getting bikes and baby home?

@paddyirish, that is a very good point about getting home.

Hope mum and baby well. She was being induced at 42 weeks.
