. Meant to post this earlier but it's been closed off at the bottom of the street and traffic reduced to two lanes with temporary traffic lights so Roseburn is a bit chaotic this evening.

I'd avoid if you can, use Russel Road for joining the nepn maybe.

Gas works until 21st September apparently.

Took 20 minutes for the bus to get through this morning.

They need to divert private cars away from there and make it bus, taxi & cycles only.

I wonder if that was what was causing the tailback in Gorgie?

I got caught up in this yesterday morning when I foolishly decided I was running late and needed a 'quicker' way west than going round the NCN houses.

    Ha!

Just to say that traffic from Roseburn Street is also subject to temporary lights hence a consequent tailback on Russell Road if you are heading west that way. Had to pavement hop this morning and take the suddenly more convenient on-pavement cycle path round the corner.

  6. I've been able to nip in and out of the coned-off area to get in/out of Wester Coates Terrace from Roseburn Terrace for the last two days. The lights are quite slow to change though, so may do the Russell Road route back onto the NEPN tonight.

The intersection of Roseburn Street/Roseburn Terrace/Wester Coates is always fairly horrible. It's my commute. These long queues of traffic on Corstorphine Road have not made much difference to me. A bit wary of impatient drivers belting out of Russell Road, but otherwise I'm pedalling serenely along a fairly empty lane going east while the westward traffic is stopped. Not so good coming home, however can walk a stretch of pavement.

Now if everyone sitting in that long line of cars were on bicycles... nae problem.

@neddie - yes - you can see what really holds up the traffic.

So for multiple reasons, including colleague transporting later in the day i shook the cobwebs of the car and in blissful ignorance decided to go through Roseburn thinking 'oh they've finished the works at haymarket ...' ha! served me right... back on the bike tomorrow and will go that way again just so i can smile at all the stuck drivers :evil smile:

...well that was fun this morning. Drivers all being incredibly patient and well behaved, none sneaking down the bus lane coming from the west, all seemed kind of resigned to their fate.

Temporary traffic lights have been removed this morning. Still down to one lane each way under the bridge - very similar layout to what will be in place if/when the cycle lane is finally built. You will not be surprised to learn that this layout was not causing TRAFFIC CHAOS.
