My pride and joy was stolen from my stairwell on Monday afternoon. It was locked to the bannister.

I'm utterly heartbroken as I'm about to start a university degree and can't afford a replacement. Currently trying to find the proof of purchase on the D Lock because I think it was guaranteed, but I bought it years ago.

I know it's generally hopeless, but if anyone sees it up for sale or ditched on the side of a road somewhere I'd hugely appreciate a heads up. I've posted a £50 reward on stolenbikes https://stolen-bikes.co.uk/stolen-bikes/cannondale-caad-x-105-sram-rival-cyclocross/

Sorry for the triple-post, not sure how that happened.

    There is hope.

CrabbitCopy got her bike back: https://twitter.com/crabbitcopy/status/1033727800488943617

Keeping checking Gumtree / Craigslist etc. to see if your bike has been offered for sale.

What a miserable, rotten thing. Fingers crossed, and yes, keep checking the second hand sales.

Oh, that's rubbish. Sorry to hear that!

My colleague got his bike stolen over summer when he moved the bike from the flat to the stairwell with plans to start cycling more. It also had a D lock. The weird thing was that the lock was gone as well and it was all tided up with no sign of the bike or lock ever being there in the first place.

Last week another bike got stolen from their stairwell. This time it was a bike that locked to the outside of the bannister.

Worth checking home insurance policy, you might well be covered there.

My suspicion is that if we prescribed opiates to those addicted to them then many crimes would return to levels seen prior to 1971.

I can't remember if they posted it here or not but one of us recently disturbed a pair of bike thieves in their tenement stairwell. Both rattling, totally desperate.

yes, check your home insurance. mine paid out when my 3 day old bike was stolen from my workplace.

i don't know much here, but in cambridge, most bike theives were indeed addicts desperate for a bit of cash, and they didn't get anything like the value of the bike after stealing it--it went to a dealer who would cross county lines to sell it. police were not inclined to pursue because they would have to pass the 'collar' on to another force, who would reap the benefits of statistics without spending the money.

there was also a sideline of people coming out of pubs, discovering their bike stolen, and stealing someone else's so they could get home.

@the canuck - that is at least one benefit of having one unified police force in Scotland!
