Hello lovely people of city cycling Edinburgh!

I'm very new to the forum and was hoping to enquire if it was okay to post a link to a survey here? I had a look around and couldn't find out for sure so I thought I'd ask.

It would be some market research into a project I'm trying to get funded by the Scotrail Arts and Culture fund and I would be so appreciative of feedback!

    Thanks pals!

Surveys are positively welcomed, but be prepared for some feedback on the survey design ...

think of it as a free survey design and methodology course. the first lesson of which is 'ALWAYS DO A PILOT'.

The thing about Pilots is that sometimes they never take off.

What forum section do you think it would be appropriate to post it in?

Do post. Do bear in mind that there are some extremely well informed people on here, and a wide mix of the rest of us too, so you may find you receive a mix of feedback - mix of opinions. Come with an open attitude and you should be received positively. Let everyone know why our opinions matter. Bear in mind that yet another survey asking obvious stuff that doesn't need a survey to find out may be met with boredom (if you wonder whether people here think bicycles are useful then the answer is yes - that saves you a survey question - you get the idea).
    Welcome.

@fmcginley, I am on a day off waiting on the rain to stop so I can go for a cycle and thinking about looked after children (possible survey as part of this) so post it here and I will fill it in.

I generally do fill in surveys and even when market researchers used to phone I would give them time.

If possible can there be a mixture of 5 point Likert Scaling questions and more open ended questions.

fmcginley - before posting the link, have a look over your questions and ask yourself:

Why do I need to know this?

If you aren't sure then consider deleting the question. Shorter surveys are more likely to be completed and produce less data for you to analyse.

I'm back, with a survey in hand!

There's a brief explanation at the header, I'll give you a taster here so you can decide if you would like to help me out.

I'm a young illustrator living and working in Edinburgh, and I have always felt there's so much beauty in the cycle network we have. So, I am hoping to get funding to make an illustrated guide and would like to gauge interest and opinions regarding guides in general. If you are able to help, I would be so grateful for your time and opinion. I am specifically looking for responses from Edinburgh residents (sorry out of town-ers!). Thanks guys!

I have completed the survey. There is maybe a niche in the market for a nice guide but not sure if there is a market in the niche?

Your man at the boardwalk cafe in silver knowes Is always pushing the promenade's potential, so as I said in my survey responses Crammond Island to Portobello including Gypsy Brae and the reclamation of Granton foreshore on to Leith Docks is I think ready for a nice guide.

I assumed this was the final survey, rather than a pilot - so won't pass any comment on the design. I really like your idea, but doubt there is much in the way of cash to be made out of it.

You could also throw in a few illustrations about the worst parts of the city's cycle network - King's Theatre junction, Princes Street etc.

Thank you so much for all of the responses, I am so grateful to have your opinions and suggestions!

This is more a passion project than a money making machine, I’m only too aware that I won’t be able to make money from this. Mostly, I just wanted to make something that I wish I could have bought myself.

If I was able to get funding for all of the printing, I was debating giving it away forfree, maybe selling prints of illustrations. Unsure for the moment.
