Simon Parker, the Cycling Visionary, who manifested on CCE some years ago, produced a network map that included a route (route 7 if I recall correctly) That involved going north down Lang Linn path and over a small cliff into the Hermitage.

I do not wish this to happen to you. Or anyone.

Ah, yes. I had vague recollections of the name but hadn't heard about Route 7. As it happens, I was cycling in that vicinity just yesterday, probably even on a short stretch of the Lang Linn Path, but I took a left onto a path within the Hermitage Valley rather than tumble off any cliffs.

Simon Parker's nephew came on here and chided us for being rude to his uncle which indeed we were.

That wasn't his nephew and we were astonishingly restrained?

    Fake nephew and fake rude.

It was a quite magnificent thread, wasn't it? Tilly was Simon Parker's support.

@arellcat, those really were the days when your fake nephew could get fake poned

Clicking on @iwrats link also takes you to a fake interview by a fake Ben Irvine who tops and tails some pure Simon Parker gold dust prose.

    One of my favourite ever lines from CCE;

You're not going to take the high ground from me, Claggy Cog.

    Unbeatable.

accidental or not, I contend that Simon is in fact the consummate visionary

for in this fine season the Lang Linn path gives access to some of the finest psilocybin fields that Edinburgh has to offer

right over the cliff of consensual reality

however i do not wish this to happen to you. or anyone

    @bax

Spotted that out running two days back. Time was the council would mow in mushy season.

    council use pesticides mainly

    but these are farmers fields

well they were, back in the day

haven't been round there since '93

got chased down the hill by a feisty clydesdale

wasn't going to make it over the fence

i swear he reared up and laughed at me at the last moment

so the mad horse is gone and the patch lies abandoned ?

this is very big news in the field of local neuro-diversity

wasn't this thread about going for a beer at one point ?

The Teuchters was mentioned, but I am not sure if that is far enough west for those that live in wildlands.

Akva at the end of the canal also good, but again may be too central.

We could have a doodle poll, but seems like a lot of work for a beer. I think we should continue to do the forum equivalent of shouting out pubs at random and then CCE's SVP of Social Event Planning will decide.

To balance gembo's discussion of beer in the severe weather thread, I'll take the opportunity to express my disappointment at the rain starting the moment I left my building for lunch. Blue sky approaching.

Jeanie Dean's? Best at £2.50 a glass. Little bike theft, on the infrastructure.

Teuchters is good - nice and central, good atmos and beer selection. Akva is a bit barn like and beer selection less good.

I'm with Morningsider, I was not impressed by Akva last time we were there.

There's a Just Eat Bikes stand diagonally opposite Akva. Not sure why they didn't put it by Akva or on the far side of the bike crossing for relative convenience.

    I like The Fountain.

Is there a pub you can take your bike into?

Only in the novel by Flann O 'Brien The Third Policeman. There you would have to buy your bike a pint.

There used to be a pub somewhere down Borders you could play bicycle polo in the courtyard

The flights of the birds* indicate that Teuchters from 19:00 on Thursday 4th October is the most auspicious venue / time / date for our purposes.

*some geese heading south, swallows stuffing themselves for departure, and a load of gannets.

Mrs U. has a standing booking for Thursday evenings at the moment so sadly (for me at least) I won't be along. Humph!

Sorry! Seems even the mysterious powers behind the universe can't find a pub night that everyone can attend.

I suspect the solution is just to arrange them more often...

Love that you have empathetically adopted @bax's lower case delivery?

I have adopted @gembo's question intonation?

@Iwrats oh, once upon a time online I was never capitalised, in name or text. sometimes i miss those lowercase days, but like a place once loved in youth you can never really go back.

also it did make lengthy posts of many paragraphs a little hard on the eyes. @bax is brief. it works.
