Assuming this has reopened? What with the toff paying the fine and the tragic death at the ex lib dem leader's son's party it has all been happening in Stow.

Culvert work. Still closed on 29th. Supposed to have been finished by 28 September. There's a little walkway thrown over the hole so walkers and cyclists can get through.

ta, they were also building a new bridge in july and would not let us through, so sounds ok for the planned trip

Ah, OK. I misread gembo's first post as implying that the fining of the toff and the tragic decease of the party at the party were actually causal factors in the closure of the road.

Good to hear that the route is open for active travellers.
(Although my main knowledge of the road is for the viewpoints down in to the valley when the SRPS steam-hauled railtours go down the Borders Railway to Tweedbank.)

Was still closed but we were able to get through. We were speaking with the very friendly farmer who had insisted on access for pedestrians and cyclists (so that her grandchildren could get to school in Fountainhall). We had to get out of the way of her vet but we also had to wait for a large crane to lift the last section of The Cundy. The Cundy is the farmer's word for a storm drain or culvert. Apparently Scottish water had broken the Cundy 8 years ago when they were improving things. This caused the farmer's neighbour to be flooded three times, despite the farmer supplying hay bales to divert the floods.

Once through we then proceeded north into stiff breeze and admired the new bridge which had closed the road in the summer. We then crossed on to A67 and retraced steps to the Gilston turn and climbed up to Soutra Aisle where we chatted to a big group of retired people out cycling. Very fast women and some slow men.

We then luncheoned in Humbie and returned to Edinburgh via Pathhead.

Small chance I'll be cycling this way on the way to Galashiels next weekend. Would be early in the morning, so likely before any work starts for the day. How much extra time would you suggest giving myself?

My pal dismounted and I kind of pushed whilst still on the bike.

If workies not started then 30 seconds max and a bit of extra concentration, there is no real plank or anything just finished and unfinished bit. If they are lifting a large section of Cundy then 5 mins

Is a hilly way bto go to Gala (particuylarly if you take the road out of Stow to the top of the world then back down to Gala. Pretty autumn colours though)

THis Saturday you would hope they would be finished, a week Saturday you would hope they would be finished....
