As @LaidBack hinted on the Brexit thread, there will be a march in favour of Scottish self-government in Edinburgh this Saturday. It's organised by All Under One Banner, an informal coalition that has already turned out tens of thousands in a series of marches around the country. Starting from Johnson Terrace at 13h00 we will walk up to and then down the High Street to Holyrood where the march will disperse.

I attended the Inverness event in July and it was glorious. Folk from all parts with their bairns and their dugs. The wonderful English Scots for Yes were pushing a sound system in a pram. Genuinely heartening.

Previously marchers have been invited to participate under the flag of their 'home' nation. I will march under the flag of the French republic, which was my home for a time, and from which the coalition of frauds and dunces now proposes to estrange me.

There is indeed 'mair nor a roch wind blowin through the great glen o' the world the day' and this is the best way I can see to counter it. Roses and geans may well not spring into bloom immediately but at least we'll have tried.

Mrs LB says we should attend. The powers at Holyrood are under threat - the 'settled will of the Scottish people' is being unsettled. A regime that can consider interfering with the Irish settlement would think nothing of winding up Holyrood if it could.

The UK never truly believed in devolution which is why the chances of extending devolution to England (or Richard Leonard's federal suggestion) will come to nought.

@iwrats - nice to promote it as an internationalist event. Various picnics etc are being organised in the park. Court ruling says that belief in Scottish self government is philosophical rather than political anyway.
Put it this way, most small businesses wouldn't want someone else's business running them - that was my argument to the pro-Union Marchmont cafe owner next door back in 2014. Not nationalism but simply local accountability of the type most normal countries expect to have.
Westminster keeps showing how it doesn't work for Scotland. Brexit is the ultimate demonstration of how remote it is from the majority view in Scotland.

Scots Tories are 13 of 317 MPs. So around 4% of influence on the hard of hearing party.

STV devoted more time to T May's speech than ITV!
How can this be? How can our news be so distorted. Then they have two Tory friendly commentators. All for a party out of step with voters here.

I'm planning on going along. I'll be with my bike, say hi if you manage to spot me (probably most identifiable as one of the few with a bike, with a camera on my helmet)

    "Volcano Fun Day [postponed]

This event, hosted in conjunction with University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Geological Society and Our Dynamic Earth, has been postponed. This is due to a planned march, passing through part of the Park to Parliament and scheduled roadworks in the London Road area."

It would seem Historic Scotland are still pretty unhappy with having thier arms twisted..

Indyref2 rally ban 'remains in force'

"The group also extended an "open invitation to all stalls to set up at the parade ground of Holyrood Park from 11am".

But Historic Environment Scotland told BBC Scotland that the police had not overturned the ban, and that All Under One Banner still does not have permission "for the set-up of stalls, staging, branding and other static presence within Holyrood Park"."

Normally one acquires the permissions before the day before the rally. Not always but normally, just sayin' likesay Ken.

If anyone's plans are disrupted by the march why not just join in? The purpose is to secure the rights we currently all have for today's children after all.

In fact it's an excellent lesson in the exercise of civic rights and duties.

Where are you getting that? The organisers advert states it is a march and rally for independence..

I'll be going as 'under reporting' of previous events has been the norm.
The city is used to disruptive external events from commerce and the arts. The current situation needs something to get people focused on the future governance of Scotland as no one else is going to do it.

The organisers will have breaks to allow some movement across High St- according to Mrs LB. Again the media have avoided giving too much info on it. STV managed to avoid all mention of it tonight. Political opponents are using #Yawn as they get comfy for the #new normal where we get behind Britain as it fights off the injustices brought upon by itself.
Personally I think we could do better getting self governance sorted so we can get all the other parties in Scotland engaged again.

I accept the fact that such 'tribal' events can repel as many as they attract but previous ones seem to have been inclusive. English people are welcome as @iwrats says.

We can be sure that if hardly anyone turned up it would get media coverage!

Another day of saltire waving, in short.

Does the poor organisation of this event extend to lack of media lobbying? Or is all Scottish media controlled from London? Or are the media bored?

I don't understand why a march where organisers are estimating 50,000 to turn out is receiving little coverage?

    @gembo

The poor organisation is a weird one. All the other events in the series went through proper channels. I think the Edinburgh-based member of AUOB is a little bit eccentric and that may be the cause.

We are just one hundred and seventy four days from UK law being made by ministerial decree. The consent of the Scottish Parliament to those laws is defined as consent, refusal to consent or a refusal to answer.

Women the world over are of course familiar with these notions of 'law' and 'consent'.

    If resisting this means carrying a flag then so be it. If Saltires are distasteful there will be a Union-flag themed counter-demonstration, probably at the junction of the Bridges and the High Street organised by Alistair McConnachie's 'A Force for Good';

BBC travel has no alerts for disruption.

True to form the event is just 'not news'!

I accept that a section of society would never support any demo. They maybe believe that not turning up sends out a stronger message.

Some would say that the small pro Union demo is actually more significant.

The media lack of interest reflects a disdain for unqualified people getting involved in politics. Or they may think we are being manipulated by Russia.

As far as HES are concerned. This organistation allows the park to be a motoring freeway. Part of the park was annexed by Holyrood parliament anyway. Crowds were bound to spill over beyond POP levels.

I heard a march passing nearby a few weekends ago. I was quite pleased to struggle to find out what it was given that it turned out to be Orange Order.

Ohhhhh boy. Yeah, the bit where I am - not even on Johnstone Terrace yet - has moved about 5 metres in 45 mins. Everyone is wondering when it's starting...

Just made it to Holyrood Park after a very gentle amble down from The Hub. I ended up joining on to the side of the march despite marshals requesting us not to, but it became quite difficult to stay where I was so I went with it.

The AUOB speaker just claimed that around 100,000 are marching today.

Amazing. If only this was reported on news media we could hear about a much lower estimate by the police. One of the many standard demo over under reporting fandangos

A large number of motorcyclists just arrived in an extremely noisy fashion. There are a few people with bicycles.

Eeep. That's big. I arrived at the bottom roundabout, could see it approaching in the distance, so went up to New Street and waited for two bands to pass, then up Cranston Street for a few more, then down again and up Carrubers Close, waited for a few more bunches to go through, joined the back of one and went to the bottom, then sat around for about twenty minutes whilst people still came through, then went back out Reid's Close and edged down and across the still-thick and still-continuous throng to escape along Abbeyhill. Definitely waaay bigger than any PoP but I didn't see the full extent so wouldn't like to estimate the total numbers.

Estimate by Police Scotland is 100,000. We made this one the biggest yet. Well done everyone. #AUOBEdinbugh
