Woodland trust are giving away packs (sized on available land and location).

    https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/plant-trees/

I know because I applied and have been successful. Mine arriving Feb/March next year. A simple enough 1 or 2 page online form.

I called our co-working office a 'community group', which seemed to be sufficient to qualify. We will be planting them in an area about the size of 3 tennis courts, which is alongside the old railway platform at Newhaven. Right before the bridge a few hundred meters up from Milk cafe, as NEPN passes under Craighall Rd.

Following the building of the new Sainsburys there is no longer any vehicle access possible to it other than along the NEPN, so it is effectively abandoned.

Anyone with space and permission* should apply and lets have a few more trees in Edinburgh.

*definition of permission i suspect could be flexible in this scenario as it is generally a good thing

Yes. Minibiketrain and I planted 150 trees over a couple of Sundays for the Lowther Hills ski club. Some of them are now visble on their webcam, so I can watch them grow.

update. Went to see how they were fairing - 15 out of 15 planted in mid March have taken and looking good. I was expecting a few fatalities.

Also have an order in for the next round: 105 due for delivery in Nov. Going for a 20m long hedge this time.

Reforesting Edinburgh could be a good project. Snappy titles anyone? Auld Treekie doesn't quite cut it.

Just a mention for "Trees of Edinburgh" on Twitter and Facebook, which might be of interest to anyone reading this thread...

    argh...

The place I was going to plant my 20m long hedge, may now no longer be suitable.

The land continues to be abandoned, but there is a planning application in to convert the lower part of the adjoining Sainsburys and access is via the land earmarked.

So I think they'll get mullered.

species are dogrose, hawthorn, hazel, crab apple, dogwood.

Anyone want any trees or have space for a copse?

Will be here in about 4-6 weeks. My fall back option is to take them to the Dacha in the Borders, but these were meant to be Edinburgh trees for Edinburgh.

I know there's a "Friends of Harrison Park" Facebook group; I'm sure there will be similar for other parks; perhaps a group like that might be interested in some trees?

I may be in the market for some wee trees for my wee garden... But I think you were hoping to release them into the wild?
