    I was told I had nice panniers today by stranger at bus stop as I returned from Scotmid. They were my old shopping panniers (ortlieb brand).

    Earlier I had cycled work bike back from town. As had abandoned it Friday for drinking and partying.

    I was extracting smiles from passersby through central Edinburgh and then up the WoL Path. I think the Pom Pom on my tam o'shanter is what does it.

    It's always nice to have your panniers acknowledged. My late lamented cow pannier was always good for a ride-by compliment from strangers

    A cow pannier? I thought the fridge was the SI unit of bike load-carrying capacity.

    An important and often overlooked distinction.

    Speaking of which, aren't you supposed to be at a pub, location undisclosed except by carrier sparrowhawk?

    I advised the best friend on panniers to purchase at great length a few weeks ago. Had not realised that "front" does not automatically generate the meaning of "small enough for front or back" if you don't spend a lot of time thinking about panniers / coveting panniers etc.

    Yeah was at the Auld Hoose. Weird timing and unplanned and stuff.

    There's an Auld Motor Hoose in Kirkwall. Apparently before it was a pub it was a garage.

    My Carradice often gets acknowledged mostly by people with proper beards and on their second bike since their late teens.

    Panniers may become a banned subject after Gatwick.

    I'm on my second bike since my late teens and appreciate a nice Carradice (while having a fondness for cow patterned shopping bags on my own bike). Tweezers are keeping the beard at bay though.

    Not sure my current beard is 'proper'.

    @iwrats, I think it counts. I used to hav a little twist under my lip. Due to my love of Tom waits. It was entirely ginger. There is an actual name for this something like Hope Spot? I moved on to an Il Diablo style but that was very scary looking. neither of these could be classed as proper. The guardian once published a short letter I wrote to them whilst holidaying in Ardnamurchan. This was about the length of Bradley wigginses side burns.

    @gembo Soul Patch.

    Don't know if the Hope Spot is a real trichological thing but it could be one of those wee hair-islands in an otherwise bald area. The source hair of a comb-over was defined as the Scraptoft by Adams and Lloyd in Liff.

    @unhurt I may just let them grow and find out if I can use them to navigate through tight spaces in poor visibility. Useful for urban cycling ...
