Went a-wandering with madame this afternoon to stop some of the few photons available. Stumbled on some new off-road tarmac courtesy of Sustrans and pals.

Cuts across what used to be farmland linking the RIE to the Wisp. At the Wisp it dumps you onto the filthy main road.

There are lamp posts and seats with a Sheffield stand so you can lock up and sit down. But what is it for? Who is going to use this apart from maybe folk living in Danderhall and having business in the RIE?

Smacks of doing what's easy rather then what's useful. A route from Danderhall into town would be lovely but this ain't it.

There is a cycle path between the A8 and new section of M8 south of Coatbridge. I don't know why and I've never seen anyone use it.

Going from Airdrie into Glasgow and back I use the A89 as it's more direct.

Easy definitely prioritised over useful, but that is still a handy link, allowing people to (partially) avoid Old Dalkeith Road and The Wisp. It will soon eventually connect to a shared use path along The Wisp, and to the Shawfair-Roslin path.

I presume there are quite a few people working at the RIE who live in Danderhall and could use this to get to work. With the connections above, I expect a lot of people could get to work using it.

The new roundabout at Sheriffhall is an opportunity to get even more useful cycling infrastructure installed in the area. Write to your representatives (including the council leader, who has responsibility for the City Deal funding), if you're worried that this opportunity could be missed.
