    Happy 2019.

Was talking to someone who would like to become a regular commuter in 2019 but has been put off by negative experiences on taking the direct route on mainly arterial roads.

I have been looking at google maps and can get down the WOL, along the canal. But then become a bit unstuck as not sure whether to come off at meggetland and cut through the railway track to Myreside, or come off at Harrison Gdns at try from there via some quiet roads up through Gillsland.

Cluny Gardens has also stuck in her mind as a 'never again' route. Any suggestions? I don't know the hermitage paths that well but I wondered if there was a route there that could find its way to KB?

Blinkbonny. Jk Rowling Stables, Colinton through Firrhill school, through the old city hospital, down to morningside then right then left after the garage, goes uo very sternly, one tricky junction then the beauty of braidhills avenue. Obviously not arrived at KB but getting there.

I'm not in route-finding mode, but Cluny Gardens have been found to be unpleasant, particularly west-bound.

I now tend to use the Hermitage and then cut right to KB.

It may not (or should not!) be fast, but it's definitely more pleasant. Speed is limited by other path users and the surface, although I've found the surface to be fine under most states of weather.

That said, I don't usually head west from KB, I'm usually going east to KB. So, whilst I use the path west-bound from home, I don't tend to make the right turn at the junction south of KB.

Gembo's route is good - but instead of going through Firrhill High School and the old City Hospital, I would go along Oxgangs Road North, cut in at Firrhill Crescent and follow the path alongside the Braid Burn through Colinton Mains Park and Braidburn Valley Park - rejoining Gembo's route at the end of Greenbank Crescent.

Depending on your friend's tolerance of gunk, they might prefer going through The Hermitage rather than Braid Hills Drive.
