Tom once took great exception to my stripey shirt that I was wearing as I had gone for a drink with Carmel Gilligan from Ballinasloe. This was in the Victoria Bar, Glasgow. Tom's acolyte starts in on me but I was able to disarm him by my knowledge of the obscure poem for two tape recorders called My Name Is Tom.
Tom was going to start in on Gilly but when he heard her Irish accent he was immediately in her thrall ( Tom's dad was a tram driver from Dublin). Tom then recited The Windng Sheet by James Clarence Mangan (19th century Irish poet) and an excellent evening ensued.
