Pedal on Parliament Goes Local in 2019

As you might know, PoP 2019 is looking a bit different - new year, new tactics. This year the plan is to shake things up a bit and to put the pressure on Local Authorities- including Edinburgh - to deliver.

We can't do do this without you.

Are you, or could you become, an enthusiastic instigator or invaluable participant? Now is a great chance to find out.

Meeting Thursday 31st January at 18:30 in Sofi's Southside (used to be Southside Social) on Buccleuch Street. Just bring yourself, your ideas and your enthusiasm.

Can't make it? Keep an eye on this topic / the PoP facebook page / twitter acount - this is just a kick off meeting, there will be more opportunities to meet up / get involved.

NB Glasgow PoP folk already had a meeting and I fully intend to suggest that we pinch take inspiration from some of their good ideas for interventions!

The thing that's getting my goat at the moment is this 50cm pavement right outside a nursery school.

I'd quite like to turn up with tools and just move the kerb out a metre.

@wingpig, yep that's the one. Looks very different now as the old Dobie and Sons has been replaced by what looks like student flats.

Not to be confused with the Southsider on West Richmond street.

Super keen. I've approached Colinton Community Council and am keen to see about improving cycling around Colinton with a particular focus on the route to Firhill school. This could be a pretty solid local camaign!

I suggest that those wishing to remodel kerbs come to the meet up and see who might join them in some (? temporary - Glasgow have already come up with the idea of marking out bike lanes with soft toys) infrastructure revisions.

OpenStreetMap does a nice job of tracking Meadows Bar -> The Meadows -> The Moo Bar -> Southside Social -> Harry's Southside -> Sofi’s Southside

    https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/366191902/history

I do query "The Meadows" Name as it seems odd and I don't remember that.

I also seem to recall that back in the 90's it was The Moo Bar. They had a big throne that was part of the set from a student play; I has some involvement in, but I can't remember what or how.

Looking at Street View images, it seems like "The Meadow" was its official name the whole time it was generally known as "Meadows Bar".

    The Meadow and The Meadows?

Must be high on the list for ‘most names in fewest years’.

    Was Meadows Bar for years.

I believe it was the Moo Bar when it was burned up? After that it must have become Harry's etc. I used to walk by there every day to go to work on Causewayside, but haven't for a couple of years now.

No chips. I have checked. They tore out the kitchen to make more space downstairs. Sorry, chip fans.
