Alas, yes. In my humble biased opinion, the 2008 Cervelo Soloist (the same frameset Carlos Sastre won the 2008 tour on) is the most beautiful road bike of the modern era - I'll post a picture when I get to a computer.
The bike is special to me too, I bought it in 2009 as a treat when I gave up smoking, and used it as a commuter all year round, it's got about 15,000 miles on it. Everyone used to say I was crazy commuting on that bike, I used to retort, it cost me a fortune, I'm getting my monies worth.
Unfortunately now, it's not safe to ride, there's basically no clearance between the back wheel, and chainstays, and over time the wheel has rubbed holes in the chainstays, and if you take the wheel off pinching the chainstays results in an inch of movement, essentially the wheel is giviu the rigidity, and any speed above 20 mph results in the most terrifying speed wobble, so it can't be ridden now.
I can't bring myself to put it in the bin, and so it will be cleaned up, and highly polished, and hung on my study wall to be appreciated for the price of art it is.
These days I'm closing in on 50, have a toddler to look after, and neither have the time, nor the speed in my legs - truth be told I never had the speed in my legs - to justify another high end Fram which in reality might do 400 hundred miles a year on the occasional Saturday run.
I also quite like Planet X, I already own a steel framed Kaffenback which I use as a commuter, and it feels solid, and quite road bike like in the feedback it gives, despite being over 15kg when loaded with pannier and marathon + tyres for commuting.
I will miss my Cervelo...
