Lady Road/Esslemont Road/Craigmillar Park traffic lights were dead when I went past at halfish fiveish. It is unknown if the wee trench at the side of the road to the north was the culprit. Yesterday evening, those at Marionville Road/Meadowbank were out.

Those traffic lights are still not working at 8.20am ish today. Quite fun crossing :0

Also the lights in Dalkeith for London Road and Newmills Road were out.

In both cases, the drivers were pretty polite in letting me through.

I assumed they were accidentally out and had something to do with the road works - but like you said, they were out this morning when I passed at ~8:30am.

As is usually the case, traffic seemed to be flowing better with the lights out than it does with the lights working.

Still surprising they've been allowed to remain out for an evening and morning peak time at such a busy junction.

They're back on again according to @edintravel on Twitter.

Did anybody who noticed the traffic lights not working actually report them to Clarence (or whatever name the road repair lion goes by these days)? If everybody thinks that somebody else will report the problem, and nobody lets the council know that the traffic lights are not working, then they won't know that they need to go and fix them…(!)

(I've used the web form to report street light faults on a few occasions relatively recently (for some reason the newish shiny tramline-related traffic lights along Princes Street seemed to go through a patch of being particularly unreliable), and it works very well on mobile, which is useful design.)

Yes, I reported both to edinhelp/edintravel on the Twitters. Included the polices in the second one after getting their handle wrong on the first.

In Glasgow certainly (and I'd be amazed if not Edinburgh), the traffic lights all communicate back to monitoring systems. They'll know as soon as they go out.
