It's the stuff of nightmares but sadly a cyclist has lost his battle for life after being in a collision yesterday. It happened on a road I regularly cycle. Really feel for the family who have lost a loved one.

Tragic. Fairly wide cross hatching there too to separate opposite directions, which makes it doubly so.

It's not clear exactly where it happened, but they have said the cyclist was travelling east and driver travelling west. So sad :(

High speed shallow angle right turn into Bangour Hospital?

Pure speculation but that was what I was thinking. Certainly do the odd shallow right turn myself to get ahead of oncoming traffic but won't be any longer!

Cyclist heading east would have turned left if going into Bangour.

Ah, You're right, been a while since I was that way (Midlothian based!)

This is (as always) an unnecessary tragedy. Assuming the driver is at fault I hope the police and prosecutors do their job well.
Sadly Gwyndaff was a cousin of a close friend of mine. They were riding together just a couple of weeks ago.
It seems that this stretch of the A89 has a history of dangerous driving. http://www.crashmap.co.uk makes quite grim viewing.

I think Tulyar means it was the motorist heading West that made the high speed turn into Bangour, hitting the cyclist heading East

Yep, I realize that now. Makes it even worse. For some reason this incident resonates a lot with me. I'm also a 30 something male who wouldn't think twice about riding a road like the A89. There but for the grace of God etc..

"The car involved was a Mercedes C220."
No drivers involved.
