    Everybody got their party piece ready for the pub once the highbrow literary stuff is over and done with?

    I hereby formally request @gembo to perform his magnificent Ode to the old folks in Kay’s Bar. I shall even request a temporary lifting of John Leslie's no-swearing rule.

    Oh, and @bill just spin by the Bike Station when you can tomorrow evening and I'll be milling about nervously and ready to write a wobbly dedication.

    @IWRATS I will spin around! I am aiming to be there around 6.30-6.45pm but I can do earlier if that works better for you.

    It's all looking good for tonight. Got the chairs out of storage and had a quick working pint with the chair for the evening - one @ARobComp - to go over the running order.

    Bit of shuttling of wine and books and sound systems, shirt to iron shoes to shine and we're good to go.

    See you all tonight - a few tickets still available on the door for anyone who suddenly breaks the bonds of domestic responsibility.

    I euh...haven't got round to washing it yet. And I'm not wearing a plastic hat to a book launch.

    @Iain McR

    Joyous! All ages most welcome.

    Need to speak to Leslie's about air quality also.

    Looking forward to this - particularly as you and ARobComp have started drinking already!

    Having had a working pint prior to 9 am seems impressive to me on many levels. I've read a third of Overlander so far and I'm enjoying it - looking forward to the launch!

    I'm stuffed full of the cold. Will try to cough only at unimportant points in the proceedings...

    I euh...haven't got round to washing it yet.

    "euh"? EUGH more like. How many years is that? Surely those clothes are now sentient and potentially ready to write their own memoir?

    No way to avoid going up the steepest bits of Edinburgh from princes st to the bike station. Going to get the tram straight from the airport and either cab or bike up the road. But frankly the mound/bridges are putting me right off the second idea!

    @steveo welcome to my commute...

    (The second half. It's all uphill though!)

    Haha. Although I'm willing to bet your gears are lower even if your bike isn't lighter ;)

    Grannies all the way. Especially if I go via Dublin Street...

    I'm getting knackered just thinking about going up Dublin Street!

    The good thing about Dublin Street is it’s (relatively) traffic free.

    Shame about the setts at the bottom and the ridiculous wait to cross at the top.

    I'm not sure why Dublin Street features between the tramline and Causewayside. If you want to avoid hills the flatest route to the event is probably from Shandwick Place. Up Lothian Road and through the meadows.

    From Princes St, along the bridges/Buccleuch St is pretty flat. For Edinburgh, anyway.

    I never quite get how the journey from St Andrew Sq to George IV Bridge involve the same climb via North Bridge as via the Mound.

    @steveo - get off the tram at Haymarket and head through the meadows- only one wee hill to worry about.

    @steveo sometimes I take a scenic diversion that involves Bell's Brae. Any pedestrians going the same way are at risk of moving faster uphill than me.

    Not sure I fancy Lothian Road on a hire bike any more than the Bridges.

    stevo - how about...get off at Haymrket, hire bike from Dalry Road then head through Dalry Colonies, over WAR, up to canal, Tollcross, Meadows, through the Grange, drop bike off by the National Library annex.
