We haven't had a good old traffic CHAOS for a while.

Excellent (not sarcasm), I ride up and down Lothian Road twice a day and it's well overdue

Came this way tonight from George St. Only problem with the diversion is that the workers coned off the Lothian Rd turn lanes bang on the white line, so it was a bit uncomfortably narrow (for me) cycling between the cones and the tram rail. After a cone or two, I just cycled inside the cones, which was better.

Seems to be getting left open during morning rush-hour so as not to impede important combustion-traffic. They're even thoughtfully parking all their surface-scraping vehicles on the bike lane on King's Stables Road to keep them out of the way.

The article linked in the OP did say that the closures would be overnight from 7pm to 7am. Which did rather undermine the suggestion that "chaos" would result.

If you use the seperated two way NCN1 bike lane between St Leonard's Police Station and Hermit's Croft you may find barriers across it and road rollers in action. On today's trike tour I went down to Engine Shed instead to get to route. Kerbs are angled beside two way section and walkers don't seem to mind bikes being on pavement there but even so...
Maybe work starts after commute time in morning...

My favourite bit of the Lothian Roadworks is the temporary absence of the box junction (resulting in logjam) and all the extra split-level unmarked RAMPs at oblique angles.

Haven't had time to go through the dug-up St Leonard's segregation area this week but enjoyed it a few times last week.
