I use that junction quite a lot. I hope the cyclist recovers.

Still not much information, but there's at least a picture now.

That is an awful place to be on a bicycle. The danger is designed in.

Another cyclist I knew was killed, by a lorry, at the same junction.
    Sad.

It looks like there's a white tent up now, which is never a good sign. Hoping the cyclist recovers.

I'm really gutted if that's the case, that's two in as many weeks

    Oh no.

I had a look on Streetview and that cycle lane looks substantially less safe than taking the lane. Why the <rule 2> is it there?

Because paintfrastructure is useless and often actively dangerous and "they" don't care? God. I already hate that junction. This is horrendous.

    “Why the <rule 2>”

    Rule 2 is “No swearing”

    CCE version of “expletive deleted”.

    Oh dear :(

I use this junction semi-frequently and I've had one very close encounter with a BMW X5.
I often just take the detour along the promenade for a more leisurely cycle along the seafront after that.

Can't believe how many serious incidents involving cyclists there's been of late.

    RIP.

I think that's what Trixie was doing - i.e. "Why the $*?! is it there"...

    OK

With the benefit of a reread, I see I misinterpreted the full sentence!

Went past this today. Didn’t look good
There was a private ambulance in attendance.

    "the lorry was recovered."

Another cheeky sentient vehicle I see.

Looks like a tipper truck involved from the EEN. Won't be hard to join the dots if that's the case. RIP

Terrible news. Thoughts with the victim and the bereaved.

I've used that junction a few times when heading further East and it is probably the largest I have tackled on the road. Think I may be crossing on foot in future or finding an alternative route onto the Prom.

I hope there will be something other than handwringing and shrugs from the council but doubt it

    Awful news, just sickening.

Is notable that the police's original tweet appears to suggest the lorry being the cause. Yet the chipwrapper insists on using the phrase "involved in a collision with...".

Sounds like struck with a lorry would be a more accurate statement.

If it is negligent driving I hope it's treated accordingly. If it isn't I hope those who commissioned the murder lane realise what they have done.

    That's terribly sad.

In recent years I have mostly diverted along the Prom to avoid this junction and the speeding vehicles on Portobello road to the west, but still travel this way occasionally, especially with trailer attached to bike. Will have to rethink now and use Prom near exclusively, with Fishwives Causeway as a possible trailer diversion to avoid that junction.
