There was talk of making the Early Bird tickets permanently available via the EdFoC website https://edfoc.org.uk/events/cyclist-track-day/ but not sure if Dennis Publishing are honoring that agreement.

@IWRATS - Perfect opportunity to wear your Ronde top.

The Fife track fees are quite high, but that's because it's a staffed facility.

Perfect opportunity to wear your Ronde top.

I get confused between Ronde and Rapha, but both always make me think of this:

it's a try out different bikes day. For some reason it provokes knee jerk prejudice amongst some members of our diverse little community.

I think I've understood, thanks. Might book a 'spectator ticket'.

    Aha.
"You will enter the event forecourt to find an array of leading brands displaying their latest road bikes, all of which you will be able to test on track at your own leisure. Brands will include Colnago, Bianchi, Specialized, 3T, Scott, BMC, Pinarello, Cannondale and many more. Whether you are in the market for a new bike or just looking for a good day out with friends, a Cyclist Track Day is an event for you."

I've heard of such things for mountain bikes but not for road bikes before.

I hadn't realised that you got road biking 'trail' centres like this one. Novel idea to me.

    More than just that -

The 1.6km tarmac circuit is specially designed to offer a range of cycling activities and for all abilities.

What does 'abilities' mean in this context? I'd have thought you can either ride a bike or not....

The track has five different layouts, depending on the event and the style of riding/racing. 'All abilities' probably just means catering for different types of event, from beginner stuff where you cone off all but a little loop for people to bimble around on, to having the full circuit available for Steve Slade to take Beano around at 35mph.

Well my club (Dunfermline CC) has a regular weekly coaching slot at FCP which does indeed cater for a range of abilities (in a 'sport' road cycling context) - from group riding etiquette and bike handling, through to racing techniques - such as are required for crit racing. All involved think it's a great facility - it's floodlit so good for winter evenings, the tarmac is smooth, and of course it's traffic free. I've yet to visit myself though...

    I don't get that bit.

Sounds like an opportunity to have a shot of some top-end road bikes you wouldn't otherwise get the chance to (or possibly a try before you buy for those with deep pockets!)

So a bit like the road bike equivalent of "supercar" track days.

Incidentally it's advertised in this month's Cyclist and includes an advertorial listing all the bikes that are available.

I see - I know nothing of these things apart from once having ridden with a guy who did pothole warning gestures.

I think there was an assumption that I actually did understand this event despite saying I didn't.

    @stiltskin

No worries - are these events poorly viewed in some quarters? (I am in favour of all types of cycling, but have my own tastes of course.)

It sounds like pointing out potholes is the bit of group riding etiquette which you won't learn there.

It was probably easier for us to skip past your plea of ignorance than work out if you were asking for an explanation.

The kids are racing there next Saturday in their first ever 'road' race. Quite looking forward to checking out the facilities.

If you are quick you can enter your kids too. Entries close Tuesday

“it's a try out different bikes day. For some reason it provokes knee jerk prejudice amongst some members of our diverse little community.”

“knee jerk prejudice” never a good idea.

Presume “diverse little community” means CCE?

Not wishing to excuse/justify/explain just thinking about potential “prejudice”/reservations/contraness.

IN GENERAL (not merely CCE) there are people who don’t like sport - including football (and/or its supporters).

Disapproval of people who ‘only’ cycle as sport/racing and ‘normally’ might be called ‘motorists’.

Some of this may residually relate to the whole ‘the Olympics/CG is good because the legacy is that more people will have a “legacy” interest in sport/exercise’, which was perhaps optimistic.

There are questions of cost/exclusivity/eliteness. I suspect ‘motorsport’ events tend to be more expensive.

The Fife Cycle Park is an impressive ‘thing’. I know a bit about the background and some of the people behind it. One reason is ‘cycle sport’ and getting more people interested/involved, perhaps more effectively than the Glasgow Velodrome (I don’t know).

It exists (unlike the long planned ‘facility’ at Hunters Hall). It’s MUCH better than the circuit at Ingliston.

The money wouldn’t have been spent on potholes or cyclepaths.

    £160.00
Exclusive Cyclist Track Day price £115.00

    Has this just been reduced?

For that you can get shorts (RRP £115)!

One of the maxims of CCE is “personal choice”.

Kids road race seems like an excellent use for this facility. Couldn't really be done otherwise I suppose.

Canyon is doing a (free!) bike test day up Arthur’s Seat on Sun 28th Apr, though that clashes with Etape Loch Ness for me.

As a regular organiser of events at Fife Cycle Park, can't praise it highly enough. Great for teaching kids to cycle from balance bike upwards. They run drop-in sessions which are popular for families to cycle round together.

    Details at Fife Cycle Park

Thinking about it a bit more.. It's the only car-free, dog-free, pedestrian-free outdoor place to cycle in Scotland. There will another one in Irvine shortly, followed by one in Linlithgow. Though FCP does have hares!

Long email in from a PR, but TLDR is that there is £10 discount code of SCOT35

Reading the description of the event, I could only see it being very expensive in the long term.

I subscribe to Cyclist, and code SUBS31 allegedly makes it £30.
