We had a great inaugural bike bus and bike breakfast this morning

As so often, this forum proves to be an incredible resource of generosity and expertise. I just want to say a massive thanks to Roibeard, Frenchy, neddie and IWRATS for coming along in particular and keeping the kids safe - also to Arrelcat for the offer of bike racks which in the end I couldn't manage to pick up. If I get some better videos etc will post up links here.

I like the addition of a piper. It would add a real sense of occasion.

Although of course I would like this to be run of the mill every day stuff with a piper rolled out on the one day a term when kids can be driven to school.

thanks for the link @Stickman - the lady from the Edinburgh Reporter put herself in harms way with that van to protect the kids - annoyingly my camera had stopped recording

Fantastic effort by everyone involved - well done algo!

Wish I could have made it, but I had to ferry micro-Morningsider to school on Canaan Lane. While she always walks/scoots - there is no way to cycle that doesn't involve travelling along/over Morningside Road. Way too dangerous for, well, almost everyone. Bring on the day when that isn't the case.

Looks very good and I'm chuffed that the Three Ladies of Cycling, Narayanan, Craigie and Macinnes were part of the gang.

The weather was blustery this morning and I wimped out from cycling.

Absolute pleasure to help. Grand to see so many folk (big and wee) so happy just to be cycling.

@Algo: Fantastic achievement and some great coverage of it.

When you have recovered from your efforts, would you be able to put down the key steps for someone else trying to replicate it at their school?

Looks amazing, well done all! Alas an early meeting scuppered my attendance this time. Another one soon?

Maximum kudos to algo and the rest of the organising team. Awesome effort!

Kudos to youngish guy in the blue estate who was happy to pull over and wait 5 minutes, despite being on a job in S. Oswald Rd, meaning the kids didn't get crowded out on the narrow section, or a pinch-point created.

Daggers to the silver van man who decided to lean on his horn for longer than you could scream for, as he reluctantly had to wait for the kids to make the straight-over crossing of Oswald Rd. I hope he feels proud of himself bullying & intimidating over 100 primary kids.

More details on angry horn man here: http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=3748&page=294&replies=8794#post-303636

I heard angry horn person, but was too far on to see what the deal was. Some people, eh?

@algo was making the point that we need events like this to change these folks' reactions from "Why are all these children in my way??!??!!!???" to "Oh, it's a bike bus. Awesome."

Huge thanks again to @Roibeard, @biketrain, @neddie and @Frenchy for helping out with the bike bus - another great success I think. Roughly 120 folk - Astley Ainslie particularly spectacular at the moment.

@Algo - It was a pleasure to help out.

Keep me in the loop for the next one.

In case anyone was asking, "Did my trailer fit through the pedestian gate at the Ashley Ainslie?"
On the return ride I was just able to squeeze the trainler throught the gate. Was so focuesed on the width that I forgot about the flags. Fortunately they just made it under the arch.

Great to have some supportive police:

“Nothing wrong with this Andy. It looks like adults and children are enjoying a healthy and active lifestyle. They have as much right to use the road as other road users.”
