Well, there's another tradesman on my blacklist.

He's deleted his original tweet. I responded but you can't see what I'm responding to. Thankfully though we have @stickman... so here's a tweet with an image of the original

The most baffling part is that he claims he was parked by the side of the road. So he wasn't even being delayed - he just enjoys getting righteously angry at children having fun.

Looking at his previous comments the guy just doesn’t like cyclists.

On a more positive note it looks like you had another successful bike bus this morning. Any more pictures/videos we can share? They always make (most) people smile.

alas I had a technology fail and neither my front nor rear camera recorded anything... I might ask Roibeard who very kindly came along if had his running

I love that I'm blocked by that guy on Twitter, despite our only interaction being my liking of others tweets.

@algo - Apologies, I missed your post saying it was on again today. When's the next one?

Thanks @Frenchy - please don't feel obliged but it's great when you do come along! Next one (last this term on account of Oswald Road roadworks) is the 7th June. Usual details here:

    http://blackfordsaferoutes.co.uk/jgps-travel-committee/cycling-bus/

incidentally - there is now effectively a modal filter at the south end of Oswald Road. So much nicer to walk and ride around there now. Good test for some of our proposed designs - particularly the excellent google maps overlays done by @neddie here

I've asked the council if they can have some sort of traffic monitor to see what the effect of this is at Blackford Avenue.

thanks @HankChief - it was great Andy could make it along. Thanks to @Frenchy and @Roibeard again for general awesomeness. We had two PCs along in a van today which was handy - they asked whether I preferred the van or a bike and definitely I think a bike is better.

We'll try and keep this going through to the winter term, but ice concerns me, so I'm not sure how brave we'll be about that.

Just a quick bump here for our next ride which on Friday 6th September - details are here:

    http://blackfordsaferoutes.co.uk/jgps-travel-committee/cycling-bus/

    or on our twitter

    https://twitter.com/blackfordsafer1

We are without one of our key members who helps to stop traffic at the North gate of the Astley Ainslie. If anyone happens to be free on the 6th at 8:15-:8:40 ish and fancies accompanying and bolstering our independent adult numbers that would very much appreciated!

Our next one is Friday 20th - usual place at 8:15. We had some problems at the back last time - anyone who fancies helping out would receive eternal gratitude from me - and possibly cake. It's hard to tell until the day how many capable parent riders we have - sometimes we have the Police, sometimes not. Roibeard does an immense job at the back, but we have become quite fragmented the last couple of times mainly due to the steep hill of Whitehouse Loan north of the Astley Ainslie. I wrote some notes on the issues here:

    http://blackfordsaferoutes.co.uk/bike-bus-guardian-guidelines/

general coordinates and times are to be found here:

    http://blackfordsaferoutes.co.uk/jgps-travel-committee/cycling-bus/

Huge thanks to everyone who has helped us so far - IWRATS, neddie, Frenchy, Biketrain, Roibeard (I will have missed someone I'm sure).

“but we have become quite fragmented the last couple of times mainly due to the steep hill”

If you can’t get ‘fast’ riders to stay together, perhaps plan to have two groups?

If not really enough experienced people, have ‘core’ of experienced people remain with slower group.

Any parents/guardians that ‘can’t wait’ are no longer JGPS BB(?)

We have to be one group as we get the lights overridden by the council at the top of Whitehouse Loan. We get the gates opened on the north end of the Astley Ainsley by the staff and set off up the hill. The group has to remain one for the light override to work. Also to fragment the group into two at this point defeats the object- the second group would end up either waiting behind traffic or filtering - as Roibeard points out this is the worst possible case.

Understand, but either all riders will stick together or they won’t.

Lead rider(s) need to know what is happening at back.

On rides I have been on someone is responsible for keeping an eye on developments and riding fast to the front to tell lead to slow down..

Or use walkie talkies (or one to one phonecall with both people on headphones).

Anyone ‘too impatient’ is no longer part of the ride’.

“No one goes in front of lead rider”.

I can supply Walkie Talkies if you think it would help...

Well as you know, we regroup at the North gate and already have the front rider, rear rider and person cycling between the two relaying messages. The problem isn't the fragmentation of the group which we deal with, it's the fact that some kids can't manage the hill and then require an adult to walk with them. Recently Roibeard and I have had to deal with this as the parents are further up in the ride with other children, for example. So it's handy to have the odd extra adult who can help out at the back if kids can't make the hill.

I can take walkie talkies too and give them to Ross and Roibeard.

Which parents are sending kids out on bikes who cannot manage a hill? Should they not be out helping?? Sorry to be so binary

The parents who are accompanying the younger sibling at the front, thinking the older one at the rear is fine, but in fact the older one is actually the one struggling...

Life is never binary. Even the ones and zeros inside computers have currents and wave-like properties, e.g. ringing, reflections...
