I have had a query about bike shops in West Fife.

"Took Bike to Sandy Wallace today for minor repair: tragedy - they're shuttered up with a to let sign. No sign of life at Ryan's across the road either. "

    Anywhere else

I have used Planet Velo in Dunfermline for sundry purchases and emergency servicing and have always been impressed.

They are a few miles further north than Inverkeithing but only a couple of stops on the train.

For repairs, Dave's bike shed in Aberdour. Dave is a top bloke.

Shame about Sandy Wallace, I know the owner (previous?), by childminder of all unusual coincidence.

Hardie bikes in Caineyhill too. There's also another bike shop in Dunfermline whose name escapes me.

Leslie bike shop further east in Glenrothes.

Just looking at updating OpenStreetMap, Sandy Wallace was marked as closed some time ago.

We still have Ryans in OSM; and their social networking seemed to be active on Saturday and I note that they are normally closed on a Sunday and Monday.

Are we sure they are completely shut?

AFAIK Ryan's is still in business I bought pedals from him 2 weeks ago. Sandy Wallace himself has been supporting him since he set up.

Seconded re Dave in Aberdour - always get good service and advice

Deliver Spokes leaflets to Singletrack Bikes in Abbeyview as well, but when I went to Bike Scotland in Malcolm St in Dunfermline for the same reason, it has disappeared in the last few months too.

“they are normally closed on a Sunday and Monday“

    Yes -

“Sandy Wallace himself has been supporting him since he set up.”

Something to do with new owners of now closed shop not continuing to employ employee. (Allegedly)

“Dave in Aberdour - always get good service and advice”

Not used myself, but know satisfied customers and have seen/heard him give advice (impressed).

Ryan is shut every Monday - he’s a shop and we like shopping on Saturdays. So needs some time off..

The sandy Wallace post sale split is ‘fairly’ well known too - there are business cards branded Ryan cycle device with Sandy Wallace on them!

Very much recommend for general service and especially wheel trues.

    Message from original inquiry:-

"Many thanks. I'd just point out in response to the comment about Sandy Wallace being shut for some time, that I used them in November to overhaul my own bike."

    Thanks again, everyone.

Bike shop Scot (Dunfermline) has moved from Malcolm Street to Pitreavie Industrial Estate.

Sooo, regarding Sandy Wallace, it looks like directors owned 3 businesses (https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC316817 ), 2 were liquidated in Jan (Sandy Wallace, and reading between the lines Ronde (Neils Bicycle Outfitters), and the parent company still exists.

I met Sandy Wallace last year during a cafe stop. He was entertaining.

Thanks for help: plumped for Dave's Bike shed - efficiently made required adjustment to gears.

Must have gone to Inverkeithing on a Monday.
