So, I thought I'd write a review of something I bought at the EBC sale.

Finish Line Showroom Polish & Protectant

RRP - £6.99 for 330ml aerosol can (I paid £5.59 in the sale. Cheaper than this online)

    What it is.
Spray-on, wipe-off all purpose bike cleaner / polish / protectant. Contains PTFE/Teflon magic to make your bike shiny and repel dirt. Apparently.

    How I used it.
Sprayed it on. It comes out as a fine, white foam that doesn't run down the frame. Useful as you can see where you've already cleaned. Left it for 10-30 seconds. Wiped off with a rag then gave it a rub with a clean rag.

    How it worked
I didn't know what to expect from what seemed at first to be a tin of "pledge for bikes". I was very impressed though. I used it on a semi-clean road bike first and it came up looking brand new. I then tried it on the mud / grit / salt / cack-encrusted tourer and again, with just a scoosh on a wipe off it came up shining. Oil and rubber residues came off as easily as general grime. With very little effort even the filthy bike came up shining.

    Advantages
You can see where you've sprayed already
It doesn't run, so with a few bits of newspaper on the floor I was able to get a filthy bike looking sparkly-clean inside my hallway
It's very quick to use with minimum fuss.
It has Teflon magic in it.

    Disadvantages
It stinks the place out like GT85/WD40 would.
It's an aerosol (you can buy it in bulk liquid though)
It's more expensive than soap and water
It's got Teflon magic in it. I remembered this as I polished my first rim up to a brilliant, slidy shine.

I might go for the liquid form to avoid having to buy an aerosol. Bottles can be refilled and reused. Given that it even brought a non-clean bike to a shine, what petrochemicals does it (likely) contain in order to dissolve the crud? And, is it just for the frame, or can you use it on brakes and derailleurs too?

I should do a review of the various bike lights I've amassed over the years.

I used it on the derailleurs no problem and on the brake caliper / cantilever bodies, but kept it away from the blocks. It made them all nice and shiny also.
