I queried swift lore with an Authority and in the end it came down to a single account by a French fighter pilot from WWI.

    Can you believe it?

Just bumping this thread into view because it’s coming up to eyes to the skies time.

Spotted a few last Wednesday by Tyne near Belhaven Bay close to Tyninghame (Mrs LB and I did river walk last week Dunbar to Haddington - train out/bus back. First venture out of city this year.)

Heard them today from inside and rushed out to see them swooping overhead but was dissuaded from any fancy notions about summer by a sudden rainstorm.

Maybe a Swift, the scimitar was there, above Harlaw farm when I was out this morning making my bike even dirtier.

Moved so quickly behind the barn so not official

Definite swifts over the New Town yesterday evening. Also, on the socials, photos from Mr W Cow, ex of this parish, of a couple of swifts over Duddingston.

A few days later than last year but, given the weather over the last week or so, I can't say I blame them. Dodging hailstorms can't be fun, and who knows what that sort of stuff does to their food sources.

@ps I follow him on Facebook but all seagulls, fancy cocktails and mini coopers on there

@gembo He mustn't have been happy with the quality of the pic as it was very heavily cropped and only made it onto Twitter.

Some over Gilmerton the now. Heard them first, they must have flown pretty low through the garden for that to happen. Went out, looked up and aye, four of them.

Good to know the swifts are back, I have yet to see or heard them, although there are always some in the Newington area in summer. I look forward to seeing them scything through the sky and hearing their screams :-)

I heard and then spotted swifts in the sky above the canal near Boroughmuir High School earlier this week.

:-) was thinking this thread should be live!

Hundreds of Swifties gave up on the tram and migrated on foot from Haymarket to Murrayfield. Quite an achievement in high heels. Went through Haymarket last night and once away from station they stayed off the new cycleway. All good natured. An egalitarian event for all those with money to buy tickets ranging from hundreds to thousands of pounds. Many did actually migrate further via airport too.
Very confusing event with everyone surfing on it. Harts Cyclery even have a poster up. Bikes appeared on stage apparently as fashion accessory.

Mr Hart is a solid Swiftie. This is 100 per cent factually accurate. I am not joking.

I think “solid” is an understatement.

Saw some Swifties taking selfies in front of the Hart’s poster the other day.

Saw / heard a screeching party in the sky over Rodney Street last week. The actual ones, not the sparkly gig-goers...
