    @bax carpet / clothes moths

We are also fighting that battle. I managed to get Mr Bill on board only when i pointed out that the holes in his merino top are made by moths.

We chucked away an old rug that came with the flat. The moths loved it. Every weekend we thoroughly vacuum the front room with moving sofas and everything. It definitely got better, but I still chase several moths during the week.

    Luckily no flour moths.

I've used these in the past to get rid of clothes munchers with great success. Obviously available at retailers other than A****n

I have various smelly bits of wood and soap in my clothes drawers.

Are 'flour moths' weevils? Unhurt may have some expertise, or at least recipes.

    ah the moths

the sleekit ones that crawl away from you and hide under surfaces and are reluctant to fly away, they are the female moths

the males are the annoying ones always on the go at night, flying around, seeking out the females

you can buy pheromone glue boards which you put in dark corners of the room, and the males all make a beeline for this scent and get stuck to the surface

the females are unaffected but have far less chance of reproduction thereafter

works very well, the glue boards get covered in male moths in about a week

Thanks @CocoShepherd and @bax. I shall get those pheromone traps and see who and what gets trapped.

My dog full on punched me in the face earlier. Split lip and everything.

This isn't a highlight obviously, but starting a "domesticated animals lowlights" thread is just a bad idea.

@frenchy - you’ve got to buy the good treats or stuff like that is bound to happen

Oh, definitely! Never again comforting her when the other dog barks at her. Maybe he'd leave her alone if he knew what she was capable of.

She's not a southpaw, in case anyone's wondering.

The greyhound just lost a fight with a fly.

He tried to catch it, missed, turned tail and ran out of the room. Nimrod, he is not.

I put the fly outside before it could inflict physical as well as psychological damage.

This is a good update. As is the previous face punching one.

@Bill if still troubled by moths I am sure Corson is reopening very soon. He sells various anti-moth items if you are able to pass his tests...

Although effective paraffin is probably not a sensible anti moth item.

Back in the day when I worked in a very big office and Did Not Care whenever I moved desk I set my old PC's spellcheck to turn 'month' into 'moth'.

@iwrats, you are showing how time served you are that you were not caring before the invention of roaming profiles.

Although I have worked IT support for long enough not to be surprised to find people playing such practical jokes and wondering who played it back on them after their desk move.

Yes this was when I was in my larval stage. The best one was the Windows shortcut that turns the screen display upside down. We used that to torment new starts in a team that was a bit of a bear pit.

A good one for colleagues who don't lock their screens is to set their desktop background to a screenshot of their desktop, and then hide all the icons.

When new apprentices started at FERRANTI BACK when we had industries, one time served wag would distract him or him whilst another time served wag welded his toolbox to the floor.

The sensible apprentice always kicked his or his tool box gently upon returning to work bench

Working away at the PC when something moving catches my eye. One of next door's cats had decided to pay a visit by climbing in through my bedroom window via the extension roof. Got it out before my wife came back with our dog as he may have not taken kindly to the intrusion :)

    Have been watching this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000lwqw/this-farming-life-series-4-episode-1

An entertaining*, interesting and honest look at the lives of a few different farming families. Including some folk trying some fairly unusual things.

Disclosure: Eagle-eyed/eared viewers will notice that I may have reasons to be slightly biased.

*fair warning, it also has its sad bits.

I do not know if rats can give informed consent but I like the idea of a half-hour working day, food and retirement.

    @Frenchie

    Hope that iPlayer's still up.

Took myself to the Botanics glasshouses at lunchtime and made happy discovery: they now have a resident cat - an big old lump of a black tom with torn ears and a clicky little meow. Quite a friendly beast. He even has a cat bed on a bench.

Somebody taking their cat for a 'walk' along the canal towpath this afternoon. The cat wasn't walking, but was enjoying the ride in a seemingly purr-pose-built wheeled and enclosed animal carrier. It had a brand name on the side, which I have now forgotten. Quite a strange sight.
