Basically an advert for a dear helmet with some tracking device in it as well as a frame twixt bonce and polystyrene.

I tried to point out it was really an advert and that whilst a helmet might help going over the handlebars this was an uncommon way of coming off a bike,

The robot captcha did not like my sums which were correct so not sure my comment went up.

N.b. I wear a helmet, mostly, sometimes it is made of wool but mostly polystyrene. I just do not like move towards compulsion. There was an ambiguous line in the advert which was Helmets are still not compulsory in the UK.

The tracking device seemed to appeal to the coop director Alan who wrote the advert. I know him, he does long distances on his own so I guess that is why he likes it. It is called Angi

Angi + MIPS = Specialized helmet that costs more than the Aldi one.

There is a helmet wars thread or two on here. So this is not my point. My point is advert for helmets mildly disguised as blog piece

Sale and purchase of plastic fripperies now the basis of the Western economy?

Oooh I see Sir is still using a plastic hat without a GPS tracker well that is Sir's choice but we wouldn't reco....

I'll put the link in for you.

I think of it as assurance not insurance.

I think he meant reassurance? There used to be a view that assurance was a payout on something inevitable (death) and insurance on an avoidable event (bike theft) but that seems to have gone by the wayside.

Thanks for linkee. Yes I think Angi might reassure a pArtner of someone who does long solo rides?

Nice reminder of the distinction. Twixt insurance and assurance

I would like to insure my student daughters expensive laptop I bought her for her 21st against her friend Naomi spilling wine all over it but as that is 100 per cent certain to happen then I cannot get insurance (well unless I pay a big premium) but maybe I can get assurance?

A minimum of 135 squids for the fancy tracker helmet plus 'crash sensor' (280 squids for the helmet our training rider is wearing).

Horses for courses, etc. If you're a roadie doing 'training' like yon fella then I suppose this is a mere trifle compared to the cost of carbon bike, Rapha outfit, gels, deluxe cafe stops, etc.

Personally I'm rarely going fast or far enough to warrant wearing a polystyrene hat. When I do, I reckon a GPS doohickey is unlikely to be needed or indeed effective. Inevitable I'd forget to charge the sensor or some such...

Also the false equivalence of someone's accident during a commute with a training ride - don't get me started on psychological preparedness, routine versus 'leisure' riding, etc. In short, unless you do a training ride daily then the two are not equivalent.

I think the life insurance/assurance distinction is still used. Life insurance might be something you get as part of your job or for a temporary period, like when you have young children and you are the sole breadwinner. Assurance is certain to pay out eventually (and therefore the sums changing hands each way tend to be somewhat different.)

    @jonty

You may be thinking of term assurance?

I'd like to know whether the guy decided that specific helmet was the best on the market for his purposes and bought it or whether he was given one to review.
