We're demonstrating in support of the 20mph bill in Parliament - more info here https://pedalonparliament.org/support-the-safer-streets-bill-demonstration/

Ideally we need 60 people to mark each of the lives that would have been saved had this bill been passed when the parliament first started.

If anyone has a cargo bike or trailer and can help with ferrying chairs from the Bike Station beforehand & back again after that would save us a van.

I'll be there - I work basically next to the parliament, so have no excuse not to make an appearance.

Having shifted and washed 100 of those chairs the other day I recommend a van.

    Bump.

If you're coming, please bring along a personal item that you can leave on one of the chairs, representing a life interrupted (we'll do our best to make sure people are reunited with their possessions at the end). It could be a book, a pair of reading glasses, a dog's lead, a half-finished piece of knitting or sewing, a child's toy - the sort of things people leave behind when they are taken suddenly. Use your imagination!

If my annoying 13:00 meeting gets cancelled in time I'll be along.

I'll be lurking around from 12:45-ish. I'll probably hunt down Frenchy, since he's about the only one I'll recognise.

Seethe. Popped there to get some photos on a hire bike, then scurried back to the officest dock, ran the rest of the way and up the stairs to find the meeting cancelled a few seconds earlier.

Slightly late and breathless for this, but shared a seat with a stuffed toy. I thought it went well and leaving a personal item was a clever and poignant idea. I left a shopping list. Well done the organisers for getting the media attention.

worked well I was a tad late but left my little fairy captured in the snow globe on a seat.

Saw several of the bike breakfast gang at this plus others so a good dozen CCC types out and about today

Thank you everyone who came today (and especially the logistics crew getting the chairs down to Parliament and back). If you haven't already, please do email your MSPs about the bill and ask them what they would support if they can't support 20mph that would save as many lives and do as much to support active travel

Good work by organisers of this event - glad I went.
Media interest was good - felt sorry for the Sudan protest that was going on close by. Ross Greer went over to speak to them afterwards.

Credit to @algo and helpers getting a car club (Enterprise) van for the 60 chairs to arrive in time.

Thanks for helping take them back as well, Laidback.

I think you had half of them all by yourself.

@algo I hadn’t appreciated that you and mutual friend were responsible for the chairs. Nicely done. Impressive.

Aside - interest8ng to see that Ross Greer (not a friend of cyclists) turned up. I guess a Green Party three line whip ((if they are such things).

Thanks and chapeau to the organisers. I think the chairs were both powerful and poignant, very well done.

Does give the photographers a focus which facilitates the story. Same as the jelly babies measuring the cycle lanes.

Well done to the organisers and chair shifters

thanks for praise but I did very little - bike station folk immensely helpful - shifting 60 chairs from up on a platform with a human chain is remarkably efficient. Well done to everyone for making this statement- later on I was in a 20mph focus group where I conversed with those who do not share our view....

There was a mass of media coverage before the event, even in the Powys County Times!

Respect to whoever is the communications person.
