I noticed the suspended seatpost on my bike was wobbly the other day and when I gave it a wee shake, it came apart completely (see photo).

Does anyone know if fixing it is simply a case of shoving the seat down and screwing it back together? It looks like that's the case, but it'd take a bit of force to shove it far enough in, and I don't want to make anything worse.

It should be, yes. You have to take the pre-load up on the spring as you assemble it.

They normally come apart through the bottom end, precisely to prevent this from happening. Happy to have a look next time you're passing.

Can you explain that a bit more?

Thanks - hoping to avoid going anywhere on this bike till it has a functioning seat again, though.

As in the spring is in a semi-compressed state without the rider's weight on it.

So you have to push the whole thing hard together while screwing the collar tight.
