However, as a pioneer in the e-bike industry and a champion of the positive change that e-bikes can bring to our communities, I was hugely disappointed that in the same breath as highlighting the nation’s “health opportunity”, instead of endorsing e-bikes, the Transport Secretary chose to endorse e-scooters, a sedentary form of travel.

But you stand up on a scooter surely?
    Recumbent bikes are sedentary ;-)

Saw a £650 Segway scooter at Pure / Halfords. Top speed of 0mph.

Hmmmm, unaware of its illegality but always goes at less than 5 mph on pavement and copies cyclists on the road. Might fly

"charged for driving a motor vehicle on the pavement"

Ah, that law that Police Scotland serially choose not to enforce on 4-wheeled motor vehicles...

Scootering too slowly so police picked on him?
Most I see move along at the 10-15mph band and alternate between roads or pavement mode at busier junctions. They mirror the new bike users that I've seen riding bikes on pavements as fearful of roads.
    Next generation riders etc -

《《 The European startups Voi and Tier have pledged to use electric cargo bikes rather than vans in the daily servicing of the networks – redistributing scooters, charging batteries, doing repairs and disinfecting. 》》

Suppose the 'not perfect' walking and cycling coned lane on George IV Bridge will be useful for the multi-mode / multi-speed mobility future. E-Scooters might go airborne on the floating bus stop ramp which is 'severe'. Skateboarder did jump on one today past small bus queue.

i shall give it both barrels today if I get a chance to go 'up town' and report back.

Can confirm it is too long / not sufficient clearance for the pump track in Cardrona.

Was passed by two electric bikes going uphill without pedalling yesterday. Many youths on hi-speed scooters round our 'hood.

I think legalisation has happened, de facto style.

gave the floating bus stop thing on George 4 bridge another go yesterday evening. Nearly came a cropper as its definitely not designed for scooters going flat out.

Avon & Somerset Constabulary traffic management unit boss Richard McKiernan told a remote meeting that he had expected carnage on roads and pavements during the West of England Combined Authority’s (WECA’s) pilot project.
Instead it has been a “policing non-event” and he has been “massively reassured” by the trial, which metro mayor Tim Bowles says will become vital in how we move around the region for generations to come.

“It may well be that we will be saying in consultation that there should be more cycle lanes so it’s safer and a more protected environment for cyclists. But we are fully supportive of the expansions, and if it stays like this then happy days.”

Basically all the concern around them I see is hypothetical pearl clutching. Similar to the floating bus stops, just not a problem in practice.

I am cool with leccy scooters but they have to be legalised somehow. I am quite scared of lawlessness now.

No need, all new laws come with clear guidance these days...

E-power in all forms is slowly becoming a norm. Note that both these seated designs are carrying luggage although the scooter trike here has more space behind the fairing. This was one I saw with pillion passenger. Note the small wheel / tyre box at back. Must be 2kW of Lithium Ion batteries to make it viable. AliBaba dot com?

    Electric 'mobility' scooter trike

Voi has launched the ‘world’s first’ large scale pilot of computer vision on e-scooters, installing AI technology that can detect when an e-scooter leaves the road and rides on a pavement, or when the vehicle is parked incorrectly.

If only that could be installed in cars!
