    Hi all,

I'm looking for a cargo bike with electric assist. Requirements:

    • Lugging baby around (they all do this)
    • Lugging reasonable amounts of stuff around (also this)
    • Lugging giant arthritic dog around (less common)

The best I've seen so far is the Babboe Dog bakfiets:

    https://www.babboe.co.uk/cargo-bikes/dog-electric-1313

The front of the box folds down to make a ramp, allowing dogs to walk (or hobble) on and off. The only thing that puts me off is that Babboe recommend you get one of their Mountain models (better motor, bigger battery, stepless shift) if you live in an area with lots of inclines greater than 3%, and Edinburgh seems to have a few of those. Unfortunately there's no "Mountain Dog" model, i.e. no model with all the extras for hills and the foldy box.

On the other side, I test-rode a non-mountain Babboe Curve which is very similar the other day, and it did ok on the slopes, though I didn't have any test weights to put in the bucket.

All words of encouragement, discouragement, or suggestions of something completely different to try would be much appreciated.

Nihola Dog version is the one we sell. Promovec e-assist as used by Dansk Post. Low centre of gravity. Lighter steering with front wheels that turn and box stays in line with frame. One of the few cargo trikes that can fit through a doorway when steering is turned.
    Door at front for loading.

This is non dog version of trike. If you go for dog version then front door is aluminium.

Nihola is light for an e trike. I can just lift whole thing off pavement.

Seats are very easy to remove and cover very quick to put on and off with two support rods storing neatly inside box. So very well thought out and lot lighter to handle than most.

Can choose your colour and they'll make one for you in factory in Denmark

Thanks for the suggestion -- will take a look at the spec and compare the box dimensions with the dog dimensions.

@Barkathon - they also do a longer box version with a door. Same lighter steering.

Always nice to see a cargo bike we've sold in use.
Walking with Mrs LB beside canal we were overtaken by a yellow Nihola trike like one above. Rear rack had child's bike hung side on - SUV style. As trike is wider, rider is probably more aware of this as weaved through people and bollards carefully and over Leamington Bridge. Missed getting a pic!

Have you seen the new Gazelle Makki? Details just released. I have 2 on order for stock. I'm expecting delivery in January.

It's superb value for a Bosch-powered cargo bike, with Enviolo and with Gazelle's quality and finish - £4199 for a 400Wh battery bike, £4369 for 500Wh.

It's available with canopy add ons, as well as a 3rd front seat and baby seat mounts etc.

I can also supply anything from Triobike.

I'm currently riding a Triobike Cargo with single-seat box and canvas cover. It has a 90Nm Brose motor with 500Wh battery and Enviolo hub. It's a great bit of kit. Pricing is a bit more complicated, so if you're interested let me know and I can get you a price.
