    Filming to take place in the Old Town in September.

    Road closures, presumably including cyclists and pedestrians for safety reasons.

    How does a film glamourising illegal street racing fit with:

    - the historic and narrow Old Town streets;
    - death and danger caused by such activities*;
    - Open Streets;
    - traffic reduction in cities;
    - global climate emergency...

    ...exactly?

    @gembo

    The films must be popular, like it or not, since they managed to reach sequel #9 (is this a record?)

    They filmed some of one of the F&F films in Glasgow last year. Basically closed off roads near George Square and had a noisy car doing noisy stuff. There didn't seem to be much in the way of stunt work from what I could see - is this all done with CGI now?

    Grand Theft Auto has some Edinburgh streets in it (I think).
    Not sure if any cyclists appear in it. If they applied 'real' city conditions then they'd get stuck behind hordes of tour buses, scaffie wagons and camper van's.
    Traffic is so bad that the Gold Brothers rarely bring their Lamborghinis up town now :-(

    My brother attended a wedding of one of the Gold family. He said the array of supercars on display would have impressed a Saudi Prince.

    If James Bonds count as sequels then #9 is nowhere near a record.

    @LaidBack Project Gotham Racing or something similar had a track going round Johnston Terrace, Lothian Road, Princes Street and the Mound.
    Restless Natives had a couple of shots filmed around Victoria Street, presumably using no CGI whatsoever.

    If you want to drive cars inappropriately round a virtual Edinburgh the Forza Horizon 4 is the thing to try. It's rather fun, actually.

    The small Greenroofers enjoy it immensely, although they have noticed that while it features a lot of street furniture that you can drive through, and many vehicles you can crash into, there are no people anywhere so you can't harm people on foot or on bikes.

    If that's your poison, Greenroofer, you'll need to look at Grand Theft Auto or the "classic" Carmegeddon.

    However I don't think either let you mow down Edinburgh active travellers.

    Prudishly, I'd keep these as parent games rather than children games...

    ;-)

    I assume it's this lot currently responsible for the western two blocks of George Street being blocked during peak commuting-time. At least, in the morning, I could legally use Rose St to go in the required direction.

    Nope - still here taking the peepee

    "George Street will be closed from Frederick Street to Hanover Street until 10pm tomorrow, as will Castle Street (from Rose St to George Street) and North Castle Street (From George Street to Hill Street)."

    I have to say that the standard of driving on George Street was appalling. Don’t they know there’s a 20 mph limit?

    No regard for the cycle lane either. Who do they think they are, Edinburgh drivers?!
