Winchburgh tunnel closed by flooding again.
Buses replacing trains from Falkirk to Edinburgh Park.
Sounds chaotic - some trains were stuck for hours last night.
Around two foot of water in tunnel.
This problem is a 'known' and plans were made to build a spur to bypass around Dalmeny. This couple of miles of track would allow a work round and allow a reduced service at least. Presently we have a fragile rail system backed up by more robust roads like the A9 and M8. Not good if you want people to change mode.
Replace buses will not take bikes.

"Replace buses will not take bikes."

What do they expect folk with bikes to do?

Almond Chord was lost as a part of the same de-scoping exercise that got rid of the demand for 6 trains per hour

A couple of years ago they’d have run a 30 minute service via Dalmeny but neither that route nor the Edinburgh suburban line (our two big diversions) were wired

    So now shut means shut

Would the Winchburgh tunnel have flooded before the electrification works? Or is this a symptom of the rail bed being lowered through the tunnel?

Rail height not relevant, as such, more about failure of well funded engineering opportunity to design and install adequate drainage for ‘extreme’ circumstances that could become ‘normal’.

Trains on Scotland's busiest rail line were halted by a waterlogged tunnel today despite a "super drain" being installed in the flooding blackspot four years ago. ScotRail has been unable to divert trains via Dalmeny as it did in the past because that line was not electrified along with the main route last year.

Hope they are keeping pumps on standby - more rain today. Radio Scot don't have any rail news on their travel report - not sure what that means.

Restored 5 mile line in Fife to Leven. Weatherproofing should be built in.
