not sure I fully understand the point. He is measured over a distance of 200 metres, uses a car to get him to 280kph and then essentially coasts for the 2.5seconds it takes to cover that distance.

Isn't it a bit like being helicoptered up Everest (if they could get there) and walking the last 10 meters and saying 'fastest ascent ever' ?

I suppose there's a bit of skill in not coming out of the slipstream and dying.

For other pointless records, see travelling at supersonic speeds *on land*.

I mean, if you're going to go that fast, you might as well go flying...

Really a motorsport record. Bike entertainment that can't be achieved without a specially designed vehicle to draft.
Main job is to get YouTube hits and achieves this effortlessly. Encourages cyclists to draught large vehicles 10cm off their bumper ;-)

For the real deal the HPV record at Battle Mountain is far more impressive - but of course you can't see rider and legs moving inside the bodywork! They have to pedal up to speed over 5 miles.

"he became the first (and only) person to land a helicopter, the Eurocopter AS350 Squirrel, on the 8,848 m (29,030 ft) summit of Mount Everest."

@sallyhinch, I'm not sure why your article suggests joining the male and female records. With Woman being so much faster it would leave nothing for men to aspire to.

I kind of agree with Laidback. The record is really for the fastest car to be followed by a bicycle. The hard part appears to be not crashing when the two vehicles start to slow down.
