In your profile select the 'Edit' button. There you can change your First name and Last name, and there's a dropdown menu from which you can select alternative display names based on First and Last. Not sure if you can change your username (that you use to log in) without chdot's help.

Not sure I can do that.

Suspect a visible name change is all that’s wanted(?)

surely this is ripe for a user poll. Crowd sourced naming is very in at the moment.

I have another superpower that I haven’t used for years.

Can make it so that only posters see what they have posted!

Can we have all of the current usernames reallocated at random?

Or we could bid and donate the total to charity.

We (or some of us) went a bit mad and started swapping usernames a few years ago, until chdot got very slightly irritated and asked us to STOP IT NOW.

chdot, do you mean you can keep anyone who isn't a member from seeing posts, or do you mean that I'd only be able to see my own posts and no-one elses?

“went a bit mad and started swapping usernames a few years ago”

I have no memory of this!

    “do you mean”

    Neither.

Only you could see things you’ve posted, but still assume that they are being publicly read.

So is Simon is still posting about his network then?

Sometime referred to as a 'shadowban' - something similar happened to me on here a few weeks back when I posted a link to a survey which used google forms.

    No

He eventually broke rule 2, so got banned. (Only banned person, so far. )

“something similar happened to me on here a few weeks back when I posted a link to a survey which used google forms.”

Nah, that was an automatic spam post stop.

It objects to links (usually when more than one is posted) on a highly random basis.

Might have been because of google forms, but probably not.

It kept happening to one person so often they re-registered (several times!)

    Enough to make anyone paranoid!

    a highly random basis.

Not a bug, nor a feature, but mystique.

Mods keep a lookout for spam-trapped posts and (usually) release as and when we find them.

One poster has had the same name with minutely different spellings three or four times

I fancied changing to Too Much Gambo which was grafitti in Colinton tunnel - now gone. As indeed has all grafitti as of tonight.

That was the person trying to escape the ‘perpetual’ spam trap problem!

If so, who were you before?

(P.s. I can see why chdot got upset with people rotating their names)

If you want to know who someone was then send them a pm. The username which pops into the recipient box appears to be the original registered username.

    Nooooooo...!

I always read your username as "livid" (LivD) which sounds so much more angry at the world...
