Oswald Road

Having held for many years the title of "The Worst Road in Edinburgh", the stretch of Oswald Road from the junction with Kilgraston Road down to Blackford Pond was finally given a new coat of tarmac recently. When I last passed that way at the weekend it did actually look like a road, rather than a First World War battlefield.

Now I read on the Lothian Buses app that Oswald Road is going to be closed for three weeks for an SGN gas main renewal project. Really? The road has finally been repaired and now it's going to be dug up again?

I've tried to find out more about which bit of Oswald Road is going to have holes dug in it, but neither the ECC nor the SGN web sites are at all helpful. The SGN web site sends you to a roadworks.org web site that doesn't even cover Scotland /rolleyes/

(Many years ago, when I lived in the Great Wen, the busy two-lane one-way street outside my flat was dug up down to the bedrock and relaid. It took a fair while, but when it was done it was billiard table smooth. Two months later British Gas turned up and ran a trench down most of the length of it - you can still see it in Google Streetview, in the left-hand lane. It nearly made me weep. I dread to think how the folks that had done the original job felt.)

    You're safe, I think

roadworks.org is a fascinating website. I think it's also suggesting that work on the Grange Road active travel improvements will start in June next year.
