Not sure if I am going to do this. I have been off sick much of this week and struggled even with the 10 min walk from the bus stop to work. I'll try to get out on the bike tomorrow then see.

    Hope the weather forecast improves!

The forecast I'm looking at says dry (albiet with a strong southerly wind). I can live with that.

@ Dave, which forcast is this? BBC Weather has forcast rain on Sunday, all week.

My waterproof currently in the wash getting a reproofing as all the forecasts I've seen say COLD and WET :(

Definitely applied for 10:25 start. Friend starting 10:15, we'll be cycling down there from town if anyone would like to join us in forming a peloton to the honest toon?

Hmmm I suspect cold wont be a problem for me going by the reports I've had on the big hill :-/ navigation may be though!
Would be nice if it was dry mind you..

It's a bit more likely that I'll start now. I went out with ERC along the coast route but cut it short to preserve energy. Still alive so if the weather is not disastrous tomorrow, will probably start. Will be on a blue Ridgeback (bike not dog) with silver mudguards.

By the way - I was going to pass by Fordel Dean last weekend but the road was closed with no way through even for bikes. So the route out may be changed. Will notify the organiser.

Fordel Dean - there is a big hole in the road and it is completely cut off - unless you take a detour through a muddy field and lift your bike over the bridge parapets.

I was there today and there is no prospect of it being re-opened for tomorrow.

Hope all found it a good day despite the foul weather and the headwind howling down Redstone Rigg!

Saw Dave looking far too comfortable heading up the hill into Saltoun, made Amir's acquaintance at Haddington as I faffed around with a tyre that was ultimately flat and needed replacing and met Smudge at every stop. Didn't manage to "spot" anyone else, unfortunately I got my other flat of the day on Milton Road so turned up just in time to sign on, pick up my brevet card and start, so no mingling at the start. Did spot 2 heroes / escapees from Carstairs on single speeds one had to push up Redstone, he was walking as fast as most people were cycling, I had a quick chat and he claimed he'd had to stop at the bottom so couldn't get a good run up... ha!

Had lost my brevet card by the time I got to the first checkpoint, it must have come loose when I reached for my pre-Redstone powerbanana.

Cold and wet and knackered riders taking the last few painful pedal strokes up Redstone.

Smudge on bikestand and banana duties as I faffed around trying to find my brevet card and then gave up and took a photo to prove to myself I'd really been there!

and prove I dragged my sorry carcass up there too, thanks! B-)
Only spotted Kaputnik, failed miserably to spot the other CCE'ers :-/
Headwind was evil, oh and anyone doing that on a singlespeed is a, a maniac and b, very, very patient! (or Lance Armstrong fast/strong but I'm sticking with my first assessment)

Mind you, at least one hero/fool did the full circuit on a knobbly tyred mountain bike!?!?

That was difficult! Weather was challenging but it could have been worse. Lots of visitations by the p fairy seen on the way around. Was really glad to do it a respectable time after being ill, but even better - got my first cc'er sightings.

Great to see Kaputnik - less good to see him with a visitation. Also he confirmed that I had in fact seen Dave (but who could miss him), looking very relaxed. Sorry missed the others.

Now I going to collapse (again).

...and someone did it on a recumbent. There were an awful lot of people stopped for punctures. I didn't see any other CCE'ers at the start. That group went off pretty fast and I was out of breath by the time we reached Inveresk. I don't mind Redstone Rig, it's all those nasty wee cleuchs before-hand that get me. I was pleased to get round in reasonable shape considering I was in bed with a high fever four weeks ago. My family met me at the cafe in Dunbar as a surprise which was brilliant. So a great ride.

Well this idiot didn't get a time because he lost his card! My rolling time was 4:13, I asked at the end where I "would have" come and he said 5:34. I was quite pleased with that considering stopping time for tea, the flats, the wind and riding a mile and a half too far!

...and someone did it on a recumbent.

That would be dave! I gave him a cheery "you need to get a flag, I almost didn't see you" when I passed. At least recumbents have gears. Wonder if there's a recumbentist sub-set that cycles in fixed?

Can't remember exactly but my actual ride time was 4hrs 59 min with an average speed of 20.7kph(12 ish mph) pretty poor by my previous standards but I'll blame the weather! Nice max speed of 72.4kph (45mph) though :)

Endurance is ok but I think I really need to work on my strength now, but somehow without aggravating my 3/4 knackered knees :-/
    Good workout today though!

Edited to add, I *think* my total time was 5hrs 50something, was a bit knackered to remember ;-) so it was Dave on the raptorbike? (waves), he's got the largest front chainring I think I've ever seen on that thing!

My total time was about 5 hours 20 minutes. My computer stopped working in the rain/sleet/hail.

My computer stopped working in the rain/sleet/hail.

I went off the scale on mine coming down the other side towards Garvald before Sancta Maria Abbey - one second I was doing 43 the next I was doing zero!

I was holding my brakes in a death grip coming down towards Garvald. You never knew what kind of road surface you were going to get next. It was pretty weird, I thought, when after all that wind the road reached the A1 and everything seemed to go completely silent.

Sounds like every one had a good time, maybe next year I'll have a go, need to loose a couple (tens) of kilos before I'd even look at those hills.

Never brake going downhill unless you absolutely have to... these gravity credits are bought and paid for (the currency is sweat and pain) and it's a waste to squander them ;-))

Smudge, it's my wheel rims I'm more worried about. My poor Open Pro's took a serious grinding.

@ruggtomcat - wierd yet fascinating machine! Didn't realise you call the "front bracket" on a bent the "bottom bracket" (see also Laidback's comment that it's not a front mech on an upright cos it's not at the front)
