I never expected to visit Durban twice but when your daughter ends up leaving home things take on their own course.
Main news here is the campaign against gender based violence. Road deaths also very high. Plus usual drink and drugs problems. Low income, high unemployment.
Random mass shootings US style are thankfully rare though!
She of course came out here via Gillespie School twinning project with Umlazi so knows all the contradictions of life here and does what she can along with her boyfriend.
Anyway... back to cycling! The fact is that driving is made very easy here and therefore done on a massive scale but there are signs of change.
Papers here saying that next infra should be high speed rail between Johannesburg and Durban - 350 miles. Capetown probably too far as takes around 1 hour 45 min in plane.
Many roads here are 3 or 4 lanes in each direction motorways with one private toll road towards airport where we are heading shortly.
