Whose will be the first manifesto that mentions “active travel”?

unfortunately the worst leader is probably the most active cyclist ...there is something wrong with the world!

@miak: I'm not sure which of BoJ or Corbyn you are referring to there, unfortunately! ;-)

Anyone know if Jo Swinson cycles at all?

I know that Nicola Sturgeon has at least been seen on a bike occasionally, and Patrick Harvie is definitely a real cyclist (don't know about Caroline Lucas)…

Oh God no. Surely everyone has already decided how to vote?

Active travel's the least of my worries at the minute.

Am really looking forwards to the six week long anxiety attack before we get to the inevitably awful result.

“Active travel's the least of my worries at the minute.”

    Well yes but.

Would be nice if ‘active travel’ had been dealt with years ago and so wasn’t even needed as a token manifesto add-on.

“Am really looking forwards to the six week long anxiety attack before we get to the inevitably awful result.”

I actually think “the inevitable” will be revised massively over the next few weeks by those who get paid a lot of money to try to persuade ‘the public’ they know what they are talking about.

    There are some certainties -

a lot of seats will return the same party as now

there’ll be a lot of new MPs

    there’ll be surprises

Once again it’s for the Tories to lose - as did TMay, against expectations.

I can’t see Labour winning, but getting the most seats is possible. A lot will be dependent on its manifesto. Will it be 1940’s nationalising socialism or make a big deal of the ’Green New Deal’?

Apparently ‘the people’ want ‘Brexit over’ - whatever that may or may not mean. Perhaps best if the next Gov can declare ‘we’re out’ long before the 31st of January - perhaps the 1st - then spend a year negotiating deals with the EU that are pretty much the way things are.

Both the Tories and Labour say they’ll spend more on the NHS and infrastructure and stuff.

So more of business as usual - to everyone’s relief...

As for Scotland: will Ian Murray be the only Lab MP? (Unlikely). Will the SNP get many more seats than now? (Probably not). Will the new Westminster mean an enhanced push for IndyRef/Indy? (Who knows?)

Persistent rumours of an electoral pact between Tories and Brexit "party" LTD.

I hope these are not true or at least do not come to pass. Otherwise we really will be up the proverbial without the proverbial.

IF that happens, maybe pressure on Lab not to stand in places like MrJ’s constituency?

If health spending were moved out of Barnet formula budgets and onto the individual then the Scottish government of the day may have to find themselves following suit very shortly after.

The snap election appears to have taken the Conservatives by surprise:

...after a curtailed selection procedure, understood to involve a ring-round of key party members in the constituency, Cllr Laidlaw was named as the candidate.

    @Stickman

SCUP are in a worse place than you might imagine. Ms Davidson's departure has left some of their elected reps unsure if they can continue as members.

@IWRATS: perennial failed council/Holyrood/Westminster/Europe candidate Iain McGill is standing again for the umpteenth time in Edinburgh North & Leith. Suggests that potential candidates are very short on the ground for them.

Useful insight into how BJ avoids interaction with public down south.

Lots of SNP supporters berating greens for daring to stand candidates.

Even saw one say they shouldn’t stand a candidate against Joanna Cheery because “the trans issues can be rectified after independence”...

Did Laidlaw forget to mention it a 3 way marginal?

Given the demographic of the backscratchers I'm not holding out hope.

“the trans issues can be rectified after independence”

That sounds like an updated version of the good old left "women's/gay/Black/[other group] rights are a distraction and they should be quiet and stop sewing discord and trust that we'll get to them after the revolution" attitude...

In other news, I see Farage won't be standing as an MP. Genuinely starting to see something in the argument that he doesn't really want Brexit, just lucrative* chaos and social division - and if he can have that AND get paid an EU salary that's fine with him. Which doesn't stop him being a fascist / authoritarian enabler, naturally.

Q where were the huge riots of angry & betrayed Brexiteers on the 1st? Pundits ASSURED me they would happen.

*investments wise. Well, and probably carefully laundered presents from a Mr Vlad I.M. Irputin
