@sallyhinch - I think last year it was "every cog for themselves"...

Or perhaps it was self assembly (in the non-Ikea sense).

A coordinator might well be appreciated by the Police and press (and demonstrably by volunteers wishing to be involved but not knowing how).

It was, although we had Iona doing a sterling job of holding it all together centrally, which may not scale if we get more groups popping up right across the country. Not really looking for an overall mastermind but as you say having someone who can field volunteer offers and/or press interest locally might be helpful.

I'd like to do something or get involved in some way. Just not sure what/how.
One thought I had was some kind of "Alpe d'Huez" affair on the Roseburn zigzags. Write names of famous Scottish cyclists on all the corners and stand around waving flags and cheering while people struggle to ride cargo bikes / tandems / whatever up.

(Someone I know who cycles a bit commented "Isn't that supposed to be a cycle-friendly slope?". Me: "Nope, it is just how they fitted it in to the space available...")

    That's a fantastic idea!

I don't think I've ever managed to cycle up the zigzags without putting a foot down. Whilst I'd love to say I managed that at Alpe d'Huez, I had to stop halfway up (because of roadworks, honest).

Saw stuff on facebook with cyclists cycling along with mock up of car chassis on their shoulders. We should get some for edinburgh Pop

Could we take them on a few laps of Picardy Place?

Ok so far, seems the frames / skeletons were made of bamboo and worn by cyclists in Latvia in 2014 on quite a wet day. Cyclists in suits/ normal clothes, no lids.

Original concept from Austrian civil engineer Herman Knoflacher 1975, he had pedestrians taking up the space.

Which featured in a Canadian architectural exhibition in Montreal 2008-9

Wood makes people big as cars TheWalkmobile, still in suit but much sunnier day and flimsier mock ups

The amusing bit of the skeleton car plan is the space required to store them before the protest.

Thought they might need to be constructed in situ?

My pal who used to be a joiner thinks this is do-able

No joinery required, just bamboo canes, rope and these boys right here.

If you are wonderful (and you are) I shall do a design with costing.

Yes but my pal is handy. Just for @algo he also knows where there is a stash of willow and locates it in Currie at the spot where i once pulled the handlebars off my bike trying to use my arms to get me up a slight kicker in my younger stronger good lung days.

    He also says canes

I am liking the meccano/sticklebricks joins

The Latvians had padding on shoulders -e.g. grey foam pipe insulation tubes

My personal source of fifteen-foot-long bamboo canes was finally uprooted a couple of years ago. Have some willow I could try and grow a few isolated canes from.

It turns out that I'm not sure if I am going to be in Edinburgh on that weekend. If I run with the Alp de Roseburn idea a bit, is there someone else who could help?
(I need to read and think about the PoP advice before I do anything else.)

In lieu of a POP this year, we're campaigning online. Here's the second part of our Space For Distancing campaign, aimed at local councils

We were originally going to do it over the planned POP weekend but we've brought it forward to now

Might resurrect my bamboo car idea as probably safe enough to go round Picardy just now?

We're very much NOT encouraging people to go out unnecessarily - but the bamboo car would be an ideal social distancing mechanism

When I went out to our corner shop to buy food yesterday morning in Glasgow, more cycles than cars passed me – an extraordinary state of affairs.
