Anyone have any recommendations for roofers? We could do with a couple of things worked on and the people we used some years ago now are no longer around so starting from scratch a little.

I know a guy who's a Compagnon du Devoir roofer in southern France if that's any use?

One of the best known roofing firms used to be run by members of Combat 18.

Zenith seemed to be good (particularly if you live in a period building). Not sure if they do work for individuals or only organisations.

We just had our chimney rebuilt by Musselburgh Slaters. They did a good job with a 5 year guarantee and were very competitively priced but might not be local depending where you're based.

James Breck are good. Probably not the cheapest, but made a great job of replacing the crazily shaped roof on our old Victorian house. (Sniff - there went the savings for my Enigma).

I may have issues with James Breck who did some work on our old flat roof many years ago under a statutory order.

Before we knew what had happened they started chiselling out at stonework on the front of the building. When this was queried just said it needed done but hadn't actually collected any evidence.

It turned out that the statutory orders are normally vague enough that they work would have had to be paid for by the owners, but in our case we had ensured it only covered the roof! So we didn't have to pay, but never got to the bottom of exactly what was going on...

(But the actual work carried out was fine!)

chrisfl - yes, not the only kind of "chiselling out" happening under the statutory order scheme.

Can highly recommend Terry & Paul from Roofing Services Edinburgh. Also they do a great job of roughcasting / harling. Very neat and tidy, very reasonably priced. A few workmates and family members have used them before too, with no complaints.

ach, only 60mph gusts at peak today

its when it hits nearer 80mph, these guys can name their price in the aftermath

@resurf thats when you cut a job lot deal with the roofer for all those wee jobs needing done.. insurance company looks up the windspeed history for that day, and approve accordingly
