Given that the cheapest option appears to be a 36h rim from SJSC, you could try lacing 24 spokes as 3 groups of 4, each side, leaving two holes between each group per side, although this leaves 4 spoke holes empty between the three effective groups of eight.
Alternatively – and this would be my preferred option I think – try lacing 24 spokes as 6 groups of 2, each side, leaving one hole between each group per side. This leaves only two spoke holes empty between the six effective groups of four, and ought to give the wheel more lateral strength for trailer duties.
