Signed up for The Snow Hare on 21st of March from Gala.
I may cycle to/from the start since the calendar says it will be 2nd day of spring.

Spring is an elastic concept in Scotand.

I'll see you there. But I expect I'll only be ready for a 200 (hopefully)

I'll be cracking out my shorts for this one, don't want to overheat.

I'm planning to ECE too - although by this point in my 2020 "plan" I'd have had a 200 and ToEL in the bag but can't remember a worse start to a year due to weather.

@edinburgh87 yep, my slowest start since 2010. Mostly down to illness of me and others, with weather and meetings also contributing. 20 days with cycling so far (including two turbo sessions), it's usually more than 35. Mileage is half normal.

I'm aiming for a 600 at the end of May. A wee bit early methinks. I'll struggle to fit in a 400 before then.

Yes, that's looking optimistic atm. February has to be the start of longer distances for me if I'm to get the season going. So far it's been a flop b/c of illness and the weather. If this continues I'll probably do more DIY rides.

@Amir - glad it's not just me. Got the Plains 300 / Llanfair 400 and TotBaG 600 to get in shape for so fingers crossed! I guess we're all in the same boat at least. Even some of the AUK stalwarts I'm connected with on Strava have been pretty quiet.

Good stuff @edinburgh87 and @amir. I will see you there! My hope is that my commute is enough to prep for that.

I also signed up for 400 Hellfire Corner in the North West on 23rd May.

@edinburgh87 I was tempted by the Llanfair 400, but the timing wasn't good. Always nice to cycle on Wales. I'll probably do a diy again.

@bill, the Hell fire Corner should be great. I did the National 400 a few years back, must share a lot of the route. It was a fantastic experience but the north coast is so hilly

Nice, I looked at the Hellfire but the logistics (plus desire to add Wales to my list) got the better of me. Will definitely be scouring the web for write ups though, looks like a great event.

@amir @edinburgh87 the North West is my favourite part of Scotland for walking and always wished I spent some cycling time up there, so thought the Audax would be a good opportunity to do it (I am too lazy to organise it myself).

As you say it looks hilly. Hellfire 400 has 2100 metres more of climbing than Llanfair 400...

TEMPERATURE LOW OF MINUS 5 last year. Also Secret Controls. Why would anyone bother cheating at an audax? Surely if you take shorter route you would just scratch at the end? I was third once in the kirriemuir mini snow road route no prizes or anything. Is it the qualification for PBP

Anyone have an update on the guy who came off today at the rescheduled Tour of East Lothian Audax? (MrSrd did his first audax today woo-hoo!)

Slight detraction from global societal collapse - who's doing the Snow Hare next week? Route checked it last week and all I'd say let's hope there's not a strong westerly on the way out!

@edinburgh87 yes, I am planning. Currently the forecast looks that it will be an easterly!

ATM Not so sure if I will be cycling to the start through with the staggered start and around 0oC forecast for the night.
Are you planning to cycle in?

Hmm not sure, my intended route is basically Penicuik, Peebles, Galashiels, Event, Peebles, Penicuik. Quite a monotonous extension...if I hadn't got the
extra 2 points from the route check DIY last week I probably would have but 50/50 ATM. See how I feel on the day I guess. Temp should be fine if it's dry overnight though

@edinburgh87 Haven't considered going this way. Thanks for the idea. May be nice through the night. And perhaps less traffic that on A7 which was my (obvious) original idea.

If admins think it's not appropriate, please delete it:

If you had your heart set on doing a 200k ride on Saturday, feel free to join me for Not Quite Snow Hare -- the pointless ride:
    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/32144017

My plan for now would be to leave Edinburgh at about 5:30 and aim to be in Biggar by 8am. Then down to Sanquhar, back over to Biggar, over to Peebles and then back to Edinburgh. Food/coffee stops not decided yet.

(As long as we don't touch each other it should be fine)

Spokes have just referenced advice that it's OK to cycle...

    https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/coronavirus-qa-it-safe-cycle

So, with appropriate caution, should be fine!

    From Audax UK chair:
"Our overriding priority must be the health and safety of our membership and the wider community. Long distance cycling poses two fundamental challenges in relation to Covid-19.

The first relates to infection control. The importance of hand hygiene has been repeatedly stressed by the health authorities but maintaining this can be challenging on long rides. Additionally, control points and cafes can bring riders, volunteers and the public into close proximity and so increase the risk of the virus being spread, in either direction.

A further factor is that at this stage we have no indication of the extent to which rider fatigue may affect susceptibility and resilience to infection.

The second challenge is that, while the risk may be small, accidental injury can and does happen on Audax rides. In normal circumstances, we manage this through risk assessment of rides and the expectation that participants take reasonable care.

Our health services will be under extreme pressure in the coming weeks and months. Riders who are injured may struggle to access timely and appropriate care and will take resources that could be used to the benefit of other, potentially critically ill, patients. "

All events until the end of May have been postponed till the next year. So my first 400k and 600k Audaxes won't happen this May. Perhaps need to go solo again.
