“I’m a member of the local cycling association and we were supposed to hold our monthly critical mass (when cyclists meet to ride through their local area) but this has been cancelled. This is especially upsetting as Treviso has a serious problem with air pollution and we had managed to involve school principals in our ride through town.”

When it's here I suspect there will be a mass exodus from public transport, and traffic chaos will ensue. May even do that myself and drive to P&R and bike from there.
Don't fancy sharing a train with the unwashed during a pandemic. Mind you, my office is open plan so I'm probably stuffed anyway, doubly so with my decrepit lungs

there's a mini-scare about coronavirus in canary wharf (someone being tested; co-workers sent home) and, indeed, I did see someone on twitter saying 'Bought a bike last week in preparation for this'.
you called it baldcyclist!

I can feel a cold coming on. Should I put my affairs in order?

Well, they’ve got the palm-oil-based hand sanitiser gel in single-use plastic bottles all over the place at work. Because it’s too much to ask to get people to wash their hands IN. THE. SINK.
Oh well, I suppose viruses will be all that’s left eventually

I, for one, welcome our new virus overlords. They've certainly mastered the art of active travel.

I love an excuse to do some minor stockpiling!
Colleague is excited at the prospect of just maybe being made to work from home for several weeks. She has had enough of other people and commuting, and a nice pandemic seems to be the answer to her prayers.

being made to work from home for several weeks
Better hope that the shops, and their supply distribution chains, aren't also affected, or we will all be dipping into our Brexit Boxes sooner than anticipated.

Reports on twitter /cycling weekly etc that UAE tour abandoned.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Including a certain C Froome : It’s a shame that the #UAETour has been cancelled but public health must come first. We are all awaiting testing and will remain at the hotel until further notice. I hope those affected make a speedy recovery and there aren’t any further cases #coronavirus

A high heid yin of supermarkets was on the news saying that there will be a shortage of ginger, garlic and chilis, as we get those from China.
I suppose we're going to return to the ancestral diet of oats, beans and barley.

i've been resolutely only posting cycling related stuff, but, anyway, I hear that banks in 'the city' are splitting up teams to different locations so that not everyone in a particular department has to be quarantined at the same time...

first scottish case; tayside; recently returned from Italy.

@SRD - sort of relieved as proves screening is working. Oddly enough Scotland has been included as being infected on many TV media maps for weeks anyway. (Odd as UK nations have their own NHS set ups and admin)
In comparison...
When it comes to world beating drug addiction Scotland is definitely a defined territory distinct from rUK.Posted 4 years ago # -
Apparently kids returning to a school in Creiff after an exchange trip in Italy have been told to stay home until tested/for a couple weeks to avoid contamination.
Said Kids are apparently delighted.

According to a workmate, BlackRock are banning personal travel out of the country. Anyone who does travel has to self-quarantine for 14 days without pay.
Not sure how that can be legal...

Someone was talking about something similar at work. They have a relative in Italy - outside of the quarrantine zone.
Apparantly if you live within the quarrantivne zone, mortgage payments are being suspended, and extra benefits paid.
Because you are not ill statuary sick pay is not payable, and so employers have no legal responsibility to pay you for that time off.
BBC has a view from this country, Govt advice is quarrantine should be taken as sick.:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51628524Only 'advice' though, nothing in law, so employers could take position not to pay...

So, more people will drive rather than use PT.
Will more cycle?
Will official advice BE to cycle??
