“The case exposed how vulnerable uninsured cyclists are”

Shame on the idiot pedestrian and her parasite lawyers: "Brushett’s lawyers had claimed costs of £112,000".
He's also a more magnanimous man than me: "he felt no bitterness towards Brushett"
The fact this whole incident even ended up in court is pretty ridiculous.
Does make me value my insurance though, however I worry that if more cyclists had 3rd party liability insurance, and it was more widely known, how many "crash/walk-into-traffic for cash" scams would we start seeing?

I am told the link is impersonating the guardian
Is this the gardener who lost because of the other cycist’s testimony?

Yep, that's the one. Here's the link, the one above is missing the "the" at the start of the url:

Probably a good idea to re-join CyclingUK/CTC then...

Fixed.

Why did the gardener not counter claim?

IIRC the gardener missed the deadline to file a counter claim case. I can't remember why that was but there's a thread somewhere.
Am I correct in thinking that most holders of household insurance have an amount of liability cover which would help in such situations as these. That might be outdated now though as insurers look for ways to reduce their premiums.
British Cycling also offer liability insurance as part of their membership package.
